Ch 97 as of 20/06/22 - some bad translation (none of the characters are very likeable, I especially hate the youngest brother.) - FL is Giovinetta (Inette / Anette) Isolde Valdemar, the Duke of Gustave’s daughter in a very medieval (almost Dark Ages) and sexist world. - To keep it a secret, FL’s mother killed the midwife when she gave birth to a blonde girl and a demon boy together. - At 6yo FL was caught kissing her twin brother Johannes (John) by their mother and has been locked away in a tower by herself ever since. Before that the twins did everything together. - At 12yo, FL was forced by her mother to wear a chastity belt and warned against all men, including her father and brothers. - After her 1st period (about 13yo), FL wed a man 6yrs older. - Her 1st time with this man was in a bed surrounded by noisy onlookers. She later awoke to find he had died horribly on their 1st night. Their bed was drenched with his blood. FL was accused of being the devil lady who murdered him. She was called the cursed princess who ate her husband. - FL’s mother died from an illness around this time. - When FL was 20yo, the Duke promised her to a man much older - sold for money in exchange for her family name - and the man’s 4 previous wives were either killed or exiled. FL received a portrait of the man on the same day Johannes returned from war. - Johannes is a war hero and called the Shining Sun of Valdemar. - FL made a wish to the Devil of Ducommun (her mother’s family) that she wouldn’t marry that old man. - That night FL hears screaming and sees the knights struggling to hold down Johannes. Later when the knights are gone, FL checks on Johannes by knocking on his door. The steps of a guard returning can be heard. FL is pulled quickly into the room by Johannes. - Before FL can leave, she sees Johannes turn into a demon before her eyes. She thinks it’s related to her wish. Her mother on her death bed warned FL that “Your wish will be granted to you, but the consequences will be dire and perverse.” - The demon embraced FL. She tried to get it to run away but they fell over. As she lay feeling useless and powerless, it kissed her. It started licking, kissing and caressing her body, even though she told it to stop. FL wakes up in her bed the next morning, not knowing how she got there. When she gets up and sees Johannes, he has no memory of what happened when he was a demon. - Priest Winfried of the Redempta Church, a monk and younger brother of FL and Johannes. He was born with a frail and weak body so he was always reading. He’s a bitter, twisted, cynical piece of hedonistic, womanising trash who absolutely hates FL. He adores, respects and admires Johannes. As children, he resented FL for what he saw as FL monopolising Johannes to herself. - Winfried is sleeping with their older nanny and nurse Griselda. - He usually returns home to self reflect after he’s been caught reading banned books or drinking alcohol. - He’s back at the Gustave castle this time to investigate the Devil stories on their mother’s side. - A demon’s body was given to the Ducommun family as a tribute. The body was divided among 9 stone coffins. Most of them were now damaged and empty. FL had made her wish as she smashed the lid of the last coffin that contained a large black demon wing. - Winfried later tells FL that he thinks the demon was offered to curse the Ducommuns. Almost all direct descendants of the family have met with unexpected deaths. FL, Johannes and Winfried are the only ones left. - Winfried took a dagger he saw Johannes looking at with longing and anguish. Later FL sees the dagger and identifies it as hers. - FL inherited the dagger from their mother. It had gone missing a long time ago and she’d given up looking for it. - FL had wounded Johannes with that dagger. She’d thrown it from her window when she saw him shirtless and carefree, washing up at the well with his men. FL envied Johannes as much as she loved him, sometimes so much that she wanted to kill him. - At night Johannes in demon form entered FL’s room through the window. As he kissed and fondled her body, he pinned her forcibly to the bed. FL called out his name and his form changed back as Johannes seemed to wake from a dream. - He thought he was having a nightmare until he heard his name. - FL tells Johannes that she likes him. - Johannes stays with FL all night, holding and kissing eachother. - Winfried suggests an exorcism on Johannes, who accepts despite the objections of his men. Johannes didn’t experience any “seizures” that night after the exorcism was done. He goes hunting with his men the next day. The monks who performed the exorcism all disappeared without a trace not long after leaving Gustave castle. - FL and Johannes have sex for the first time (ch 17). - He came through her window late at night, his body showing signs of turning into a demon. Afterwards FL prayed to the devil to remove the curse from Johannes. - Winfried suspects the relationship between FL and Johannes, and tells Griselda to spy on them. - The Duke holds a banquet for FL and her betrothal. The old man’s youngest son 30yo Henrik Indridson is the guest of honour. - Johannes entered the banquet hall with his men all in full armour. It was his way of protesting against FL’s 2nd marriage. - Johannes saves FL from a rough and boisterous greeting by one of his men by striking him down. Henrik alleviates the tension by calling for a toast and cracking a joke. He signals Johannes to leave with FL. - Once alone, FL asks Johannes to run away together. After warning FL about the difficulties, Johannes promises FL that he’ll make it happen and to give him time. She says she loves him truly, deeply. - FL hasn’t returned to her room yet from the banquet. - Griselda is torn between her duty to Winfried vs his mother. Griselda was there when the twins were born and the midwife killed. She was sworn to secrecy by their mother. - The Duke and Johannes leave to inspect the land. They’ll be visiting residents that have been heavily taxed due to the war. Johannes’ presence will help to appease those people. - Unlike most nobles, Johannes knows how to read and write. He writes a letter everyday and FL has the priest at church read it to her. - NB: FL can also read and write. - One day while alone in church, FL is confronted by Winfield and told to give Johannes up. She realises Griselda betrayed her. - FL declares that she and Johannes love each other, and have done nothing wrong. Winfried calls FL shameless and selfish for asking Johannes to sacrifice so much for her. She’ll destroy his life for a youthful indiscretion. Winfried threatens to tell their father if FL doesn’t break up with Johannes 1st. - Johannes returns and is ready to run away but FL at the last minute pushes him away. He sees the dagger and thinks it means she still hates him and has just been using him to save herself. - FL loves him so much that she decides to let him go and paint herself as the villain. She tells him that she’s responsible for his curse. She calls him a disgusting monster and she never loved him. - FL gets married to the old man’s son Henrik as his father’s proxy, and leaves soon after for Indridson in the south. - Johannes goes to the battlefield for a yr to forget about FL. The war is almost over when he captures the enemy’s son. - At Gustave castle during the banquet, his father makes a joke about having no more daughters to marry off. Johannes kills the son taken hostage and throws his head onto the banquet hall floor. He says FL was sold because their father was blinded by their money. - Winfried tries to give an engagement ring to Griselda. - Griselda tells Winfried about the events around the twins’ birth. The stone coffins were delivered to Gustave castle when the Ducommun men all died in battle. - The Duchess had made a wish for a son, but a demon was born. She summons Kretschmann and discovers from him that her husband the Duke had the men in her family killed so he could possess the stone coffins. - Kretschmann: a strange man who appears like a ghost when Ducommun blood is spilled on the demon part inside the stone coffin. He can only see the past and the future. - When Kretschmann was alive, he was known and reviled as a heretic because he experimented with dead bodies. He wanted to resurrect his dead wife. - The Duchess makes another wish to change the demon child into a beautiful boy who will grow like a normal human. - The Duchess checks on the babies and the demon has changed into a boy that looks identical to the girl. As they grow, the boy copies the behaviour and mannerisms of the girl. - Albel, Griselda’s husband who was a soldier that came from the Ducommuns to escort the new Duchess. He’s also an illegitimate son and half-brother of the Duchess. - After the twins were born, Albel constantly had visions and nightmares of a demon. He was driven insane and burnt the storehouse to destroy the demon he saw there. - The Duchess ordered for Albel to burn to death for his crime. Griselda had just fallen pregnant after losing their 1st child from a miscarriage. The distress from her husband’s death and being imprisoned led to her 2nd miscarriage. - Griselda was released from prison and allowed by the Duchess to care for the children again. The Duchess was by now heavily pregnant with her 3rd child. - Griselda had to help with the delivery of the child. - A healthy boy was born. Griselda went outside to grieve the loss of her own children when she sees Jaclynde, another Ducommun maid. She was burying her baby boy, an illegitimate child with a handsome priest as the father. - Griselda saves Jaclynde’s child and swaps him with the Duchess’ child. Griselda then kills the son of the Duchess. - After what he heard from Griselda, Winfried wrote a fake letter from FL to Johannes. When he found out about Johannes and FL, he was delighted to think his perfect brother was as depraved as he was. Now he knows that was never the case. - After a month, FL and Henrik arrived at Indridson castle. The old man greeted her then left her alone. She was able to roam the castle for the 1st time in a long while. Over the last 14yrs, FL spent half of it caring for an ailing, insane mother. The other half was in isolation. FL soon learnt that she’d swapped one prison for another. - At a banquet to introduce FL to the Indridson vassals, FL suddenly left early on her own. She couldn’t stand being on display for strangers. That night the old man beat her with his cane. - From then on the old man sporadically beat FL. At night he would sleep beside her. Henrik won a tournament and at the banquet he tells FL that the previous wives were caught with another man. He kisses FL to provoke the old man. - The old man grew more violent and cruel. FL’s body was battered and bruised from the constant beating that went on for months. - After FL had been at Indridson for a year, Johannes arrives to save her. He read the fake letter by Winfried and rushed to FL in just 3 days. Johannes is shot through the neck with a bolt from a crossbow fired by the old man. - The old man hits FL while she lay trying to protect Johannes. - FL remembers a deeply buried secret. Johannes was forced by their father to follow a custom. A boy must bear witness to the marital union of FL and her 1st husband in bed. Later that night Johannes was the one who pulled out the heart from the chest of FL’s husband. She has never told anyone the truth. - Thinking Johannes is dead, FL grabs a fire poker and hits back at the old man. - As the old man calls for the guards, FL grabs Johannes’ sword. She’s stopped by Johannes who then rips out the old man’s heart. The guards break through the door and FL tells Johannes to run. - He carries her to the window and they jump. - They escape into the nearby forest. FL tries to remove the bolt using Johannes’ dagger but can’t. She blames herself for making the wish. Johannes tells FL that it’s not her fault and she’s not responsible. He’s always been possessed by a demon. - Johannes pulled out the bolt and it started to heal. - FL noticed the thin braid tied to his dagger is made from her hair. - They kiss, caress and become lost in eachother all night. - In the morning, FL goes to cleanup at a nearby stream. - Henrik surprises her. He says he was watching her and Johannes last night. FL tells Henrik to just let them go. He kneels before her and asks her to stay with him. FL says now that the old man is dead, the person she hates the most is Henrik. - FL is at an inn. She was unconscious for 3 days from a high fever and her whole body aches. Johannes comes in through the window in his monster form. He had gone to kill everyone at Indridson castle. As she gently holds him, Johannes changes to his human form. For the next few days, they make love every night. - FL starts to have visions of killing Johannes. - Johannes leaves FL at the inn while he goes back to Gustave castle for a week. FL wakes to see another version of herself in full armour, questioning her love for Johannes. Her other self says she actually despises Johannes so much, she wants to kill him. - FL refuses to believe it but her other self points to the evidence. Johannes has created another prison for FL at this inn. He killed her 1st husband which she was blamed for. He did nothing while she was locked away for years in the tower. And she has recurring visions of killing him. FL is shocked as she comes to realise the truth. Her child self tells her to figure out how to break free from this prison and kill Johannes. - FL ventures out of her room. She spends her days outside watching the scenery. One day Henrik arrives at the inn and is surprised to see her. ML had spared Henrik during the massacre at Indridson castle. Henrik drags FL back to his room. - He talks about how thrilled he was to see the castle fall as the source of all his terrors and the death of his father at last. He knows Johannes can’t die and also saw his monstrous form. Henrik calls FL the keeper of the devil. - FL is attracted to Henrik for achieving the true freedom she craves. She kisses him out of envy and jealousy. - FL loves Johannes but she also wants to hurt him. - Henrik offers to be her solution and asks her to leave with him. - He kisses her before she can answer and pleasures her with his mouth down there. - Meanwhile Johannes has returned and killed those at the inn while he looks for FL. He senses what she’s feeling and knows she’s with another man. FL is aware of this and is aroused at the thought of it. - Johannes enters the room and sees FL with Henrik. - He kicks Henrik then throws him out of the room. - Johannes partially changed into a demon. FL torments him by blaming him for having everything while she had nothing. FL tried to kill herself with Henrik’s sword but Johannes stopped her. - FL commands that Johannes must stay by her side and never leave her to atone for what he did to her. She orders him to masturbate in front of her. FL is playing the cruel dominatrix while Johannes has become meek and submissive. To test if it’s just lust, FL threatens to leave the room and struggles against Johannes. - Johannes confesses to FL that it’s only ever been her. She’s everything to him and he’s only had eyes for her. He finally says he loves her for the 1st time. He says it over and over again as they make love. - 23yo FL is at Gustave castle. Johannes has become the Duke. - Idris, son of Kretschmann. He betrayed and abandoned his father by giving Kretschmann’s research to Giovinetta Ducommun. She used it to resurrect her dead twin brother Xavier. - As a child, Idris was the victim of bullying because of his father. He met Xavier who treated him as a slave and a dog. He was kept naked in a cage and starved except for the odd piece of rotten food. He was given to Giovinetta who asked Idris to become her knight. - Since Johannes was 4yo, he’d had dreams and nightmares stemming from his memories as Idris. The demon inside him was created from Idris by Kretschmann. As Johannes grew older, his mind became poisoned and overcome with Idris’ memories. - Johannes remembered his nightmare for the 1st time when he was 6yo. From then on he had nightmares every night and suffered from insomnia. - One night 6yo Johannes heard noises from his parents’ room and saw them having sex. The knights had told him about “a man’s pleasure” and Johannes thought his mother seemed to be in pain. - The day that FL kissed him for the 1st time, she was innocently copying their parents and wanted to comfort him. Their mother dragged FL away and called Johannes a filthy monster. - Johannes chased after them into the tower. - His mother tried to strangle him to death, accusing him of dirty thoughts and wanting to rape FL. Johannes is confused by his mother’s words and actions, as he’s unaware that he’s a demon. - In his mind, Kretschmann tells him that FL is the original of the human skin Johannes is wearing. That’s why he yearns for her and has special feelings for her that are different to those of normal siblings. - Kretschmann takes Johannes back to memories of when Idris 1st met Xavier. Idris was caught in the hunting grounds while he was searching for food. He told Xavier that he didn’t know archery or how to use a sword as his father thought it was uncivilised. - Xavier shows Idris how to shoot an arrow. Then he says Idris is pathetic and powerless, even more useless than a dog. Idris would be a gift for Xavier’s sister who had recently lost her dog. - Johannes returns to the present with his mother. - His hand defends him by briefly changing into a demon’s claw and slashing at his mother. His hysterical mother is taken away. - Johannes spends time in his lessons and is praised for his archery skills. FL watches while she’s locked in the tower. - Johannes finds out from Winfried that FL will be locked up in the tower until she’s married, despite her protests to their mother. - Johannes goes to their father to be punished instead of FL. The Duke tells Johannes that as he’s the heir he must learn to make firm decisions to be a ruler. Even if it’s a mistake, it must be made with conviction. The Duke kills a scribe to make his point. - Johannes pleads with his mother next but she looks at him with contempt and calls him hideous and disgusting. - The Duchess takes Johannes to the 9 stone coffins and tells him the story behind them and her wishes. She uses her dagger to cut off Johannes hand and it reattaches itself. His mother forced him to realise that he’s a demon of the Ducommun family. - She says if he really loves FL, he needs to die for FL to be free. - For 100 days, Johannes tries to kill himself each day. - He kills small animals in his room to cover up the blood. - He continues to dream of Idris’ memories. Idris and Giovinetta became lovers but she used him to resurrect her brother. This was despite the fact she was the one who stabbed Xavier to death. - Idris saw Giovinetta kiss the resurrected Xavier. - NB: Xavier and Giovinetta look exactly like Johannes and FL. - Idris’ feelings for Giovinetta start to overlap the feelings Johannes has for FL. He confuses the past with the present. - Griselda helps to sneak 7yo FL to Johannes room every night so they can spend time together. Being with FL seems to keep away the demon of Idris who would hurt her. Johannes decides that it’s best for FL to continue being locked away. - One day while hunting, the Duke captures a baby black panther and raises it as his pet. Johannes returns to the castle to learn FL has been forced to wear a chastity belt. Secretly he is delighted at this. - The day the panther is killed by the Duke for injuring Johannes, he was actually protecting FL from being attacked by the panther. Normal wounds on Johannes heal like those of a human. - That night Johannes asks to kiss FL but she refuses. - Idris was left to die by Giovinetta.
