Sound of Bread
(Read ch 5 on tapas) - Ch 14 as of 05/07/21 Robert Frost quote: Two roads diverged in a wood, I took the path less travelled by and that has made all the difference. - FL is Kimmie who hears music when she tastes things. - She comes from a family of lawyers in the US but became a musician. She was a cello soloist but wants to be a conductor. She’s studying at the Paris music conservatory. - FL is a perfectionist who tries hard at everything she does, so as not to disappoint those who think highly of her. She has nightmares about her music lacking soul. - ML is Kale, a rude and carefree / laissez faire apprentice baker who sleeps at the bakery he works at. - His family had a vineyard and he has many siblings. - ML doesn’t have any dreams or goals. FL thinks it’s sad he seems to think he isn’t worthy of having them. He actually gave up on them when he was younger and his family were struggling financially. - Conductor Amelie Fournier, FL’s childhood idol. - Usua the saxophonist from the US, good at improv. - Chloe the violinist with soul, she idolises FL. Her father was also a violinist but died when Chloe was young. - Aiden the pianist, lives in the same building as FL. - FL and ML make a bet about whether or not she can tell the oil used in the bread he bakes. He loses and has to bake free bread for her for a week. A sore loser at 1st, he starts to look forward to her visits. FL buys him new clothes as a gift in return for the free bread. - On the last day of their deal, ML wears the new baker uniform gifted by FL. He hears she’s playing cello outdoors and goes to see her. Usua is there helping to record FL as it’s for a music assignment. FL starts well but faulters when Chloe surprises her by playing her violin nearby and attempting an impromptu duet. ML arrives and the sight of him calms FL as she recalls the music of his bread and the purpose of this piece as a dance and means of communication.
