I LOVE THIS MANGA. To start off, I gotta say that this plot style is different from everything I’ve read so far, it is surprising and every page you’re more and more into the story and willing to know what’s gonna happen next. It is the essence of the “slice of life” style, because I felt like a part of the story myself. And it’s a simple plot, nothing takes absurd turns, everything is according to a storyline and it all makes a lot of sense. Every character has its importance on the plot and their own personality, and the more you read you grow more affectionate by them. Sometimes when they were all having dinner together at the dining room and having fun I felt happy for them, it seems like a family reunion, they are all together having fun and it’s so nice. It really is a slice of life. Also, I say it’s different because you actually get to know (mostly) the main characters better, and it’s not only that they grow stronger in personality every page you read, but also you get to se through the walls of defensive posture (I’m specifically talking about Youichi here but not only him, there are other characters that you thought they had certain personalities and it turns out they are different, and for the best). Youichi, for example, he’s a very interesting character from the very start. The thing is, he not only gets stronger in personality throughout time, but also you get to see through him, through the walls of his heart, his defensive posture and arrogance. He’s a totally different character comparing him from the first 3 chapters to the last ones. I find this really mesmerizing because as you get to know him better (through the eyes of Sakurai) you see how sensitive and fragile he is, the opposite from what he appeared to be the first time Sakurai sees him. And that’s what makes is even more realistic, because relationships are that way, people change throughout time. And for Sakurai, the same thing, he shows himself so childish in the beginning, a bit depressed and grumpy, and it turns out to be very responsible and caring. And the experience of seeing them change right before your eyes is just an amazing experience, it’s been a while since I’ve felt so involved in a manga the way I was with this one. You get confused with them, you hate, you love, you laugh, get excited, sad, happy, and so much more. Everything about this manga is the perfect timing, it’s not too far nor too slow. Things happen the time they’re supposed to, and there is no unnecessary drama, the characters have their own personally and limitations but nothing is left unclear or unsaid for much long, so the storyline isn’t based on conversation gaps, they have other issues to worry about. Oh, and there’s the age gap. I particularly enjoy the topic because I think there are many ways of exploring it, and I find this one of the best I’ve seen, they deal things like grown ups, Sakurai for example makes his decision of getting into a relationship with a 19 y.o. guy and he’s aware of the issues. The family isn’t a problem as well, their relationship is seen and treated the same as any other.
