The storyline of “ Let's Be a Family ! “ follows the story of a long - term gay couple. Their childhood friend asks to see them, but when they meet they discover she's pregnant. This is a heart - warming story about the bond between two men and familial love. Although this story is purely fictional and is not based off of a recounted event that has happened to someone or a group of people. It portrays some universal themes that is relatable to real life realities of same - sex couples. It opposes the idea that a child has to have a motherly counterpart in order to be raised and it contradicts the stereotype that two men are incapable of fulfilling the motherly needs of a child. In this case, the two males are acting as the child’s parent and through their ups and downs they were able to raise the child in their friend’s stead. It shows that regardless of gender, same - sex relationships and families are not that different from heterosexual relationships and families.
