Hogu Hagyeongsu
The yaoi universe is full of bastard semes but this one must be one of the cruelest. What I do like however is that it's never portrayed as okay and the Kyung-soo never really forgives it. Yule also comes to realise his wrongdoings and regrets it. Arguably he could have grovelled for forgiveness more but at least he tries. Had it been one of those stories where the uke just suddenly forgives everything, the seme never changes, apologises or regrets what he's done I would have given it a one star rating for sure and trashed it to death, but because of the attempted redemption it crawled up to a 4. I think Kyung-soo said once that Yule will never be happy. Maybe I'm a vengeful bitch but that somehow soothes some of the pain felt for Kyung-soo. I'm still very sad for Kyung-soo though, I just wish he could be happy. Good points for the story are that it's definitely memorable and emotional and the art is also great.
Chew and Swallow
LOVE the character development and redemption! It's quite a chilling and twisted story at times but also emotional and heartwarming. Taehwa and another dude are real bastards in the beginning and treats poor Minjae horribly, but the way they grow and try to make up for it is gold. Love redemption arcs. The storytelling is superb! Adam no Rokkotsu
I LOVE IT! It's such an interesting story with amazing characters. Although I've read some other stories with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) or as it's more commonly called multiple personalities, it has never been in so much focus. And it's not like I go to my yaoi trying to get a psychology degree but I actually learned a lot! I think it was actually the translator who went above and beyond explaining the condition. It does still fetishise the condition to some extent but it's a story so I think it's okay. Anyway it's kind of like a weird triangle drama even though the different identities are in the same person. Love all the characters. The seme really cares for the uke. And the sexy scenes are amazing too!
If You Do Not Obey Me
The seme is despicable! Rapes, humiliates and imprisons the uke. At least the uke is initially refreshingly aware of how bad it is and tries to stand up for himself. I think I would have liked the story a lot more if they had kept that tone and he either got away completely or if the seme had a proper redemption. The ending feels very rushed however, the seme gets better but doesn't seem to truly have changed or made up for his wrongdoings and the uke's feelings towards the seme seem to change almost over night. There are also other very loose ends, the most apparent one being what happened to my favourite character (you who've read it will know what I mean). It feels like the author had a lot more planned for this story but for some reason had to quickly wrap it up.
Interview with a Murderer
Wow really different! I have never read anything like it before. It really mixes BL with thriller. The characters are very dynamic and mysterious. Their interactions are so suspenseful and you can't be sure what they actually think of each other. Clark is very mysterious and kinda shady and even though he's the main character you never really know where you have him. Alex is bubbly and cute so when you get reminded of how he killed his victims and how cold-blooded he can be its quite jarring and conflicting. The other characters are also interesting. I wouldn't say it's very romantic but it fits the story and the relationship development is still great and interesting. The story has a more serious and mysterious air.
