The abuse and rape are meaningful to the plot and it’s not fetishized by the author. It’s not something that is stopping our protagonist from going forward. All the victims of rape ( two if I remember correctly) don’t address their trauma really, they keep on and get their justice. Which is one way to move forward I guess (I mean, I was never raped or brutalized, so how would I know ejat is the right way to go about this)
