Here U Are
you won't find anything here that you haven't read somewhere else before. it's your typical college scenario. one protagonist is the bold, impulsive, extroverted type and the other is the quiet, poker-faced, introverted one (god, i wonder where i've read this before... *slowly glances at my own username*). as expected, they don't get along at first, but by overcoming repeating assumptions and misunderstandings, they get closer and closer, until they become a couple and live happily ever after. c'mon, ever the manhua itself admits, on the very first chapter, that you already know what happens in the end; you already know this story. "so", you might ask, "why on this tree bearing earth did you even bother to read all of it?" well, because even if it's a tale as old as time, it's been told really beautifully this time. maybe the plot isn't that appealing for its predictability, but the characters play you into going along with it until you find yourself kind of immersed on their little act. we have some well constructed and developed characters here, ones with depth and interesting back stories, ones that you cannot help but to sympathize with. exactly what cherry blossoms after winter missed so terribly, with its under the average plot. so before i knew it, i was rooting for these people, i wanted to see them together, i wanted to see them well. it's a great sign when scenes like the one where yuyang goes home and goes through that whole harassment situation with his family tighten your heart, make you cry a little. because then you know those characters have won a part of you. and that's honestly all it takes to sell me a story i've already read. homophobia is a big subject here. it's dealt with in a few different ways, and we see different queer experiences; yuyang was bullied terribly both at school and at home, as he could not and would not hide the fact he is gay; huanwen, on the other hand, suppressed it and tried to live a normal life until it became too much to handle; lihuan found out recently and, comparatively, did not seem have such a hard time. now, am i saying this is a perfect portrayal of queer experiences? i am NOT, because im not that insane yet. but it does a pretty decent job, and even the ever-so-annoying "but he's straight" trope seems to find its foundation here, considering yuyang's trauma. what i'm saying is, although i usually don't care for gay stories that center being gay as a subject, i also found myself very fond of how these characters came to understand themselves, their past, their experience. i'm just saying it was really nice, and there were some scenes that had me incredibly moved, as did that yuyang one that i mentioned previously, the one where huan wen goes to a blind date, and the one where yuyang's parents finally grow some attitude. because those things resonate with me, and that is a sign that it was, within its own limitations, very well done. overall, i love these characters and the couples (except for the redhead and the barman one, i couldn't care for them a single bit and skipped most of their scenes, which, you know, is one of this manhua's downsides). among the side characters, huan wen was the one that resonated with me the most, and i really like him. the protagonists are really appealing, i love the both of them, they're super fucking cute together, i love their relationship and love the development. differently from other stories that i've marked with 5 stars here before, it didn't have me head over heals for it, but it's terribly sweet and i had a good fucking time reading it. and that is enough. i find no reason to give less stars, as i didn't find it to be weak or lacking. it's simple, but enough. since i always talk about sex, this one doesn't have any, you horny fucks! click on it and read something other than porn for a change goddamn it
Boy Meets Maria
i cannot give a proper review now because i'm in tears. it's just perfect. it's perfect. read it. but BEWARE OF THE TRIGGER WARNINGS FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
Kisses x Kiss x Kisses
this is genuinely funny and absurdly cute. what a lovely relationship development from the main couple, and whatever is going on between the glasses boy and the manhwa artist is also just as good. ordinary story, but appealing characters and super clever writing and flow. this helped me go through the last 3 days or so! very good!
Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!!
