This is what I call a Magna Yaoi. Top of the line story line. It may be framed upon the typical yaoi yakuza trope; however, it explores themes of child sexual abuse and child trauma due to violence with a great sensitivity atypical of this genre. The protagonists' bond is realistically portrayed and they are so strong and relatable that they engage one's emotions almost immediately, making you identify and love them at the onset. The main antagonist in the story is able to elicit sympathy and empathy despite his wrongful actions. In conclusion, this is an emotionally engaging AND satisfying story that will make you laugh and cry at the same time and will stay with you days after having read it. I wholeheartedly recommend it. Scarlet Beriko is undoubtedly a superlative Mangaka.
