The Sheikh's Rebellious Mistress
pretty standard Harlequin. Nothing super stand out about it, but it certainly wasn't bad. I would like to know what ever happened to her boss that was on the island with them? Did they sue him for sexual harassment? I hope so.
The Italian's Inherited Mistress
This was interesting and compelling, but god the male lead was awful to her. He didn't deserve to be forgiven so easily at the end. I might have liked to see his mother being told the whole story and almost disowning him. That might have made me feel like he had to feel the weight of his mistakes. All that considered, somehow I didn't hate him, and I'm glad they ended up happy.
AN INNOCENT MAID FOR THE DUKE
Miss Winthorpe's Elopement
This was cute, even if the end felt a little abrupt, and their relationship was frustratingly chaste, even for a period piece.
Ruthlessly Bedded, Forcibly Wedded
Pretty typical. The female lead is woman who has been abused by her only remaining family. She's had a shit life but she still tries her best and is a genuinely good person. The male lead is an asshole who takes her virginity, knocks her up, blames her for everything, and refuses to believe a single word she says. It's not until she miscarries that he starts to realize just how awful he's been to her, and starts to be a little compassionate. He still can't believe she's a good person till he hears it from another man (a former coworker of hers). She realizes she's in love with the asshole, the asshole apologizes and professes his love, and then happy ever after. Because of course she forgives him immediately.
THE TWELVE-MONTH MISTRESS
okay. he's an asshole. She's not a pushover, but she is way too devoted to him. I don't think she should have forgiven him in the end. Girl you better have gotten a solid prenup to protect yourself and your baby or the next time you're wearing a robe around a family member he's gonna flip his shit and take that baby away.
Claimed for the Carillo Twins
Another harlequin where the male lead treats the female lead like absolute crap right up until the end. I was almost ready to forgive him once he realized she was a virgin and started treating her better, but no. He had to go and hurt her one more time. When you take your wife's virginity and finally start to realize how wrong you were about her, and she asks you what you want, the correct answer is not, "I want to go back to my life before i met you". What the hell possessed him to say that??? He was just awful the whole time. Why did she even like him?
