Besides the original story, the heartbreakingly realistic characters - Itou-sans taste in clothing is ... adorable and creepy. You could certainly take his necktie as a metaphor for being watched all his live in everything that he does - but maybe it's just his "personal taste", one of the few he was allowed to have.
