Gekai No Okiniiri
A pushy gay surgeon, Mashiba, falls for a piano teacher, Toshiyuki, after hearing some music through the open window. The madcap pace continues with Toshiyuki's mother succumbing to peritonitis through appendicitis, which reveals Mashiba's skills as a miraculous diagnostician and surgeon and uncovers the family wound of a father suddenly dying from stomach cancer. Then the return of an old pedophile to the neighbourhood awakens Toshiyuki's old traumas, which "explains" why he is anti-gay, even though it doesn't because where's the connection? Then an American rival appears on the scene and .... this story sure has a lot going on in it. The weirdest part is when the pedophile is being ridden out on a rail and all the neighbourhood women are gossiping about his "Foreign" videos, as though nothing in Japan would cater to his proclivities. Of course, he's just being moved from that neighbourhood, not sent to a hospital for treatment or to a prison for the well-being of children anywhere else he moves, so that leaves me a bit flat, but it shows what a devious tactician Mashiba is on top of his other Sooper-dooper qualities. Why Toshiyuki doesn't just drop his pants right there and then, I'll never know. Wait! I think he does, but Mashiba or whatever-his-name-is is probably too much of a gentleman for .... or it's a cliffhanger. I don't know if I can handle another plot twist for the purpose of making Mashiba more superhuman than he already is.
Driver's Love
An old-school compilation of mainly PWP yaoi short stories drawn in a dated style. The stories aren't bad: (1) A rickshaw driver runs off with a client who turns out to be in denial about having a crush on him for years, (2) Just as a gay Tokyo-based hairdresser fears he's falling too deeply in love, his father dies, prompting a mad dash to Okinawa after turning off his cellphone and hiding his contacts, (3) A series of afternoon delight trysts between a Japanese salaryman and an American GI stationed in Japan turns out to mean more than either wants to admit, (4) A highschooler seme wants to make graduation as special as possible for his uke, and (5) A boy becomes inspired to learn piano after being relieved from a shock and fright by a dancer.
