I Thot You Was a Toad's manga / #Comedy(251)

Ikenai Mousou Fudanshi

Complete | yamada mario | 2012 released

A comedy about being forced to share a tight space with someone who fits with one's personal porn fetish. Includes masturbation and coitus interruptis, and more mistaken impressions than the average fudanshi can shake a willy at. Second story is about library sex. Yay!

Koi wa Ina Mono Myouna Mono

Complete | zaou taishi | 2000 released

Tamura has the gift of prescient dreams, but one of these dreams is more like a curse because it is an explicit sex dream and his future lover is a man. What happens when this fated lover, Seiwa, shows up at Tamura's school? Hilarious and, in spite of the comedy, mature and goodnatured. I love Tamura's family and friends.

Koishite Daddy

Complete | KITAZAWA Kyou | 2011 released

Satou, a straight businessman with a kindergarten-aged son, falls for Takahashi, his gay neighbour, who loves children. Takahashi has endured censure and abuse, and Satou and his cute son had to deal with abandonment by his ex-wife, so they both bring their baggage to the relationship, and this manga shows how they deal with it and master their instincts. Satou is a little more authoritarian than I like in men, and I almost dropped the story at one point where he crosses the line, even if his first concern is for his son. The story is so fearsomely earnest and tries so hard to be wholesome and sweet almost into maudlin territory, it's difficult to stay offended for long. A lot of Kitazawa Kyou's stories tend to dance on the edge of that place where the autocratic seme almost overwhelms the compliant and good-hearted uke, so this is clearly a power dynamic preference of the mangaka's. It isn't mine, though, but this time, Kyou doesn't let the story go too far.

Apron De Choushoku Wo

Complete | Hiiro Reiichi | 2005 released

When I first read this story (way back), it was one of my favourites, and, although other, better manga have come along, I still enjoy it. There's something very soothing about the relationship between the graceful Shirakawa and his warmhearted loveable "dog" of a kouhai, Yamato. The lovely way they are led to embrace each other through the tragic (and understated) backstory of Kisshoubou has any easy realism that smooths over what would be quite an awkward transition — a specialty of mangaka, Hiiro Reiichi. The subplot involving the stolen intellectual property from Shirakawa's company moves the story back into a vaudevillian zaniness and takes away from the pleasant pace, while not really serving the story except to maybe appease the mystery over what happened, but that is my only nit. Read this. It's a classic.

Akunin O Nakaseru Houhou

Complete | amagakure gido | 2000 released

One night in his adolescence, Kayano, suffocated by his controlling mother, falls for Takao, a boy he finds beaten and left in a park. He discovers that Takao is greedy and grasping, and pretends to be a selfish jerk who plays cruel tricks on others. As Kayano meets each of Takao's ridiculous challenges, and carefully eliminates all the obstacles, he discovers a side to Takao that nobody suspected. Even though the characters in this story are so flawed and unsympathetic, and Takao, in particular, is such a manipulative jerk, it's a great story. The ending is so satisfying. Wonderful.

Koi made Hyakurin

Complete | AMAGAKURE Gido | 2000 released

Kotaro has a romanticized idea of what a big brother represents in the yakuza hierarchy, and he projects it all over Tojaro, who runs a flower shop. Together, they spend their days icing cupcakes and picking out china with subautomatic machine gun patterns for their wedding.

A wacky showbiz family with an otaku son whose life-long trauma turns into a blessing because the boy who kissed him thinks he's a girl, and isn't completely shattered past forgiveness and forgetting when he finds out he's not. Zany shenanigans ensue as poorly concealed plot devices for the purposes of smexing. Lots of smexing, but lots of Awwww!romance, too. This story is now licensed, so let's support the mangaka and author and buy the story.

Himitsu no Kuchizuke

Complete | takao hiroi,Kamuro Akira | 2000 released

Oneshots dealing with different kinks: (1) foot fetish, (2) partner- swapping and foursome, (3) breaking in a virgin and threesome, (4) a repeat of chapter 2. No other reason than smut.

Haisha Nante Kirai da!

Ongoing | AIBA Kyoko | 2000 released

Cracktastic tale of a boy with a traumatic experience of dentists who gets cavities which require him to meet a dentist with a tooth fetish. Sparkles ensue, along with a lot of nonsense about the correlation between mouth care and personal qualities, and the dentist is quite the hot mess of insecure wibblings, but this is no "Little Shop of Horrors" or "Marathon Man". There are no Cronenburg instruments of dental torture hidden in any corners here. It's strictly about the cute and, while it's little too tooty-fruity for me, Aiba Kyoko sure knows how to draw twinkly BL. The manga is marked as ongoing, but this particular story is signed off with "The End" so I will consider it complete.
