tsukineko's manga / #MY FAVES(10)

NightS

Complete | YONEDA Kou | 2008 released

4.5 stars. I love this, and could reread many times over! As is often the case with Yoneda Kou's work, it's more mature, subtle and realistic than other yaoi. The uke is the one seducing the seme whilst playing hard to get, instead of the typical yaoi dynamic of a weak, girly uke getting pushed around by the seme. Sensei has obviously given some thought to human nature and the way relationships work.

Ore Ni Koi Shite Dousunda

Ongoing | Yoneda Kou | 2007 released

4.5 stars. Just in case it ever gets updated, I've read up to and including ch. 4. It's beautiful, and I can't believe it got dropped! Maybe, just maybe it'll be completed some day.

Rainy Days, Yesterday

Ongoing | yoneda kou | 2015 released

Have read up to and including chapter 5. I love it! It's pretty realistic and adorable. The uke is such a tsundere, but it's not annoying, because we know that it's due to his tragic past. The pace is refreshingly slow. It's beautifully written and drawn. I'm looking forward to reading the rest.

Kiwa (Kaori Monchi)

Complete | Kaori Monchi | 2000 released

This was both Beautiful, and Hot! However, I feel pretty conflicted about it, because of the fact that the dad's attraction started when his son was still so young. I'm really glad it didn't turn into a shota, (and that I didn't stop reading, as I very nearly did). Imho his dad really does love him, (not just lust after him), because all that time, he [the dad] didn't touch him nor tell him about his attraction until A) he was an adult, and B) he [dad] realised that his son was into men and had an inkling that his son was into him. I.e. the dad didn't push himself, (neither his body nor his feelings), onto his son until he knew that it would be ok. Even at the end, he asked if he could open the door, leaving it up to his son to decide whether to let him open that door, (nice symbolism btw). Otherwise, I get the impression that he [the dad] would never have acted on his feelings. So, a good dad, who truly loved his son, though unfortunately in the wrong way. Luckily for both, the feelings were reciprocated, and it could be the start of a beautiful relationship. Too bad we don't get to see it!! Edit: I had rated this 4.5 stars, but I came back to change it to 5 stars, as I'm still mulling this story over in my mind, many months later! It was quite thought-provoking for me: If the same kind of situation played out in rl, (and in fact I'm sure it does more often than anyone realises), how can one even be sure that the son's feelings didn't develop as a result of the dad's feelings? I mean, even though in this case the dad took pains not to show his son the way he felt, kids pick up on things subconsciously. Also, there was of course that incident when he helped him to pee as a little kid, which was the main catalyst for the sons' feelings. This is one of the only manga I've rated 5 stars. The art is good, there's plenty of hot smut, it's thought-provoking, and it elicits all kinds of conflicting emotions in me. I'm looking forward to reading more of this mangaka's work... Re-edit: Just to say that if I could give this more than 5 stars I would! After all this time I STILL periodically think about this manga! It's one of the manga that has had the most impact on me. It's quite a feat to create something that's simultaneously so hot and so thought-provoking!

Love Song (yamagata Satomi)

Complete | yamagata satomi | 2000 released

4.5 stars. That was really good! I'll definitely reread it some time. I don't know what kind of magic the mangaka used, but the characters, their feelings and their world were so vividly and realistically painted, that I felt - and still feel! - that I'm in their world, to the point that I DON'T WANT TO READ ANOTHER MANGA nor consume any other fiction, for fear that the characters might vanish into smoke. I also think it's the first time I've enjoyed a story about 2 timing, and liked all of the characters and understood how they came to be in that situation of 2 timing. It was very sensitively told. I also share and thus understand, the musical connection aspect, and I love the way that that was woven in. Also, all 3 of the guys are bi - yay! This manga is beautifully written and beautifully drawn. I'm so glad I read it! Edit: WTF?! Just noticed the shitty rating and my brain. cannot. compute! I guess maybe people didn't like the 2 timing or something smh!

I've read up to chapter 25. Anxiously awaiting the rest...

Kyoudai-biyori

Complete | tsuge amayo | 2000 released

4.5 stars. Absolutely beautiful! Both the art and the storytelling are superb. The tension between the 2 brothers is palpable, and their story somehow feels very real. I was totally drawn into it, apart from a few moments when I just had to stop and admire the beautiful art! Forbidden love - especially incest - is a favourite theme of mine, and here it is explored in a sensitive and realistic manner, that I have only seen before in Ike Reibun's 'Not Equal'. I probably would have given 5 stars had there been more smut, but that's more because I'm a perv, than because the manga needs it.

Bi no Isu

Complete | IKE Reibun | 2000 released

I particularly like the first story. Plus I love the art style.

Kobi No Kyoujin

Complete | ike reibun | 2013 released

4.5 stars. I freaking LOVE this! Says it's complete, but doesn't seem to be. So, for future reference, I've read up to and including vol. 2 ch. 13.9. Anyhow, love it! Similar to Finder in certain aspects, but better, grittier and more realistic. The art is stunning! Both Kabu and Nirasawa are hot as hell!
