5/9/21 A very sad and introspective take on a relationship that is the most important and devastating thing in either of their lives. We see two characters who under different circumstances would have loved each other dearly for a lifetime. Instead, violence, trauma, and mental instability forced the two of them to walk different paths. *Spoiler* But in the end ***spoiler*** the main character would rather sacrifice his life rather than sacrifice his love, no matter what atrocities the object of his love has committed. This one defiantly made me think. What the main character had in his heart was true love and undying devotion, does that in some way absolve his lover of sin? Should I want them to have a happy ending? I still don't know. Review update 8/25/21 This review is for the 8 extra chapters which have been added to the end and follow the relationship between detective Koh and the Chief. I am glad I had a long break before reading this extra/side story because it is entirely removed from the main story. I think that this is a great addition to the main plot because it ends on a more positive note, leaving us with bit of hope rather than complete emotional desolation. ***Spoilers*** I am really impressed by the art style for this 8 chapter extra. Many sequences are shown in a blur, or we are unable to see every aspect of the scene. The color tones are muted and only specific ones stand out in each panel. Many times we view the characters or scenery as though we are looking through a fogged or glass with a fine layer of frost obscuring our view. It feels so aesthetically attractive and in some contexts erotic. Because in life our experience is selective. When we try to remember events of a specific day often we are left with only a few images and sensations. Sometimes even in the moment, we are unable to take in every part of our surroundings. For example, during the passionate sex scenes, the author chose to focus on snapshot images and blurred moments. Focusing on the visceral feeling of bodies colliding and emotions cresting, rather than showing the sex in its entirety. For this story, I felt that the art style and the story were perfectly paired and it was very satisfying to read. For future readers, if you don't want to read a tragedy read the extra! It could also easily work as a stand-alone story and is really good.

I give it 5 stars because it accomplished what it set out to do. The story makes sense and the art is beautiful. Although I did not like it, the work deserves 5 stars because it is high-quality whether or not it suits my tastes. ***Spoilers*** Personally, I did not enjoy it at all. I hated the main character and how he systematically destroyed everyone around him. Wanted to stop reading several times but was holding onto hope that it would turn around. Nope it never did.

Cradle of Imae

I cried like a sloppy little bitch. This one comes across as a cute fantasy BL, and it is for the first 29 chapters (almost exactly halfway). But it takes a very dark turn very quickly and has no problem massacring all the characters it just spent the first HALF of the series making us love. Honestly, I feel like it should have a tragedy tag included. ***Spoiler Thoughts*** Needs a tragedy tag! Seriously, I know that the two main characters make it out alive (barely). But so many other characters we love get fucking murdered without the slightest hesitation after 29 chapters of backstory and buildup. I feel this really needs a tragedy tag included. This is arguably the best Fantasy BL I have ever read. But the angst was so excruciating it was hard to take sometimes. This is obviously because this story is PUT IN THE WORK! I genuinely understood every character's motivation for everything, and so I genuinely cared about every character's struggles and so I felt really emotional. It means it was well written. When the first side couple dies together at the end of season one I BAWLED my MOTHERFUCKING EYES OUT! I still don't understand why they had to die!!! It was so traumatizing! But from a storytelling perspective, it upped the stakes and let the audience know we weren't in "training mode" anymore. It sends a very clear signal that now the story will shift in a different darker direction. That the two main characters are leaving their childhood and mentors behind as they ascend to their own life quest. But I was still hoping that they were gonna reveal that they didn't die, or that they had survived, or that they could go back in time. ANYTHING! Seriously if you read that extra about them falling in love, choosing to be each other's consorts, and then dying together you will be a puddle of sorrow rolling around on the floor begging for mercy. This story was: Well written, well-drawn, well-produced, had an interesting concept, a unique setting, and a decent ending. I just felt it was SO SAD. SO MUCH of the time. That would be my only complaint. If I was gonna read it again, honestly I might just read the first 28 chapters, and then like the last 10? It's hard to say, it was a lot of sad to read all in one go. Also, I was a little surprised that the Ryujin's power's ended up being so meh? Like he kinda couldn't do anything but there was so much buildup? And Imae, it was hinted that maybe he was half-goblin or something??? Or half-demon? But they just left that dangling out there??? Well, whatever I'll go check the comments. Anyway, defiantly really good, worth a read. Maybe don't get attached to the characters and you won't cry so much. :)

SPOILERS UMMMMMM?!?!?!?!?! THE FUCK?! This should have a tragedy tag all the way. ugh. This is so good, the art style is immaculate. The mood is intense. The concept is so interesting and you get sucked right in. But oh my god its a fucking TRAGEDY! They don't end up together and both just slowly forget each other while looking at the images created during their time together. So much angst! But it was very good.
