Kawaii Akuma

Complete | Madarame Hiro | 2007 released

I'm not giving it a higher rating for a few reasons. Like Daikachi, it started with rape and, similar to Daikachi, it didn't resolve any tensions or address the assault at the beginning. What made it different was that the MC of Daikachi, who could afford to move away from Junta and brushed off his rape went to work and continued on as normal without any mention of it because he had a goal of acting for his grandmother in mind that no amount of assault could take away from him. He was determined, strong, stubborn and had a mind of his own that made him come to life despite being fictional. However, THIS protagonist is only a student who could recognise his assault, but put in no thought into moving schools so runs into his rapist daily. He tries to get away from him and is repeatedly thwarted (by the school, which is absolutely hilarious, I must admit) and in the end pursues a relationship with the rapist due to a definite flaw in his personality. The rape was a factor I can move past - as terrible and insensitive it is for me to say - because it's so common in the genre and many mangakas don't address it as such in their works. It was a rarity to see a protagonist who recognised the act, but it was definitely tiring to see him harping on about it to someone who clearly DIDN'T care and beat up his friend - love Ichii, Stan him for clear skin honestly - when he attempted to intervene. Simply put, he's weak and I get minimal enjoyment out of reading this because of that. I love the art though, it's beautiful so it gets a star. And Ichii. Ichii is everything, but he's also very ignorant.
