Despite the Stockholm syndrome, the reaper in the mask has a much deeper past and background than the hastags might suggest. And then, I don't think the protagonist fell in love with him because he kidnapped him but because he was able to look beyond his hideous aspect of him (the scars on his face) and he understood how lonely and sad he feels.
