You Own My All
This is the story of a Prince who is eventually dies due to the game of thrones played within the imperial family. He reincarnates or goes back to the time after he'd just spent his wedding night with his new husband (referred to as wife in the manhwa), who was bestowed to him by the empress (not his mom). The story refers to interesting political schemes, strife and drama within the story, but hyper-focuses on the main couple and their developing relationship to the detriment of the plot. So many interesting conversations and plans and action is all left out for the sake of a lukewarm love affair that has some fluff, but isn't quite portrayed well enough to be worth it. That is to say the art is bad at conveying movement and expression to a certain extent. It's more detailed then some art on here, but it's got some pretty bad weaknesses. For some reason I cannot fathom, the chibis frequently used in this art style feel overly used and I dislike them. The translation is passable, but you can tell as you're reading that certain words are used wrong, and there's enough grammar mistakes. If you're going to have a plot this interesting, it would be nice to actually commit and spend some time on it. You can have both, just make sure to strike a balance and for the love of good things, stop cutting stuff out, it makes me wonder if there's pages missing!
The Hero Returns
A guy burdened into becoming humanity's champion to fight against monsters coming out of dungeons, finds himself the sole survivor of the human race and then is killed. He reincarnates into the body of some other boy, years before the apocalypse and sets about trying to save humanity again. The beginning is kind of choppy, I dunno if there are pages missing or what, but there were a couple instances where I was left wondering if there was a scene missing. Exposition is not dumped on the reader in huge amounts of text, there's less of it and the plot keeps you engaged. I wouldn't say this stands out among all the other series that feature reincarnation and game-like worlds. Although perhaps the cast of characters so far is mercifully small, something I sometimes find gets a bit out of hand with other stories like this. There are some plot threads that get set aside and take time to get resolved, which made me initially uneasy because I was afraid they would get abandoned. They didn't! So it's all good. So far, there's no romance annoying or otherwise, which also means no harem, for those who hate that genre as I do. MC's new mother is only there momentarily and is otherwise pretty much written out of the story. This usually annoys me, because why introduce family if they aren't going to do anything interesting with them? However I do like the way the mother was utilized in this, even if her presence in the story is short. The emotional connection and motivation she provides is well done, and her being left out of the plot soon after feels more natural than the author running out of ideas on how to make use of the character. It still bothers me a little, but only in the way that I would like more character moments where mc sits and talks to people and relaxes and lets the story breath for a minute. Sometimes stories like these fall into non-stop action, and this ends up exhausting the reader. But I don't feel it's gotten to this point here... yet. I got up to chapter 61 and am annoyed with the turn of events that ends up introducing us to a new character. But that's just me. If you like this sort of stuff with an OP MC, than this is definitely for you. The mc isn't an asshole and is actually pretty nice, though not to the point of being a cinnamon roll. There's no fan service or cheesecake, people aren't sexily losing their clothes in battle. The art is good, and the english is good barring minor grammar hiccups here and there. No word salad chapters here, thankfully! Though I think there may have been one chapter with some pages out of order, but while it was noticeable it didn't hinder reading the story. All in all? It's fine, I'm not inclined to drop it. there's the main goal the Mc is working towards, but there's some fun little side quests that are fun and not presented as check list fetch quests. I would like more emotion and connection in this story (there's so much hinted, but largely unexplored, angst!!), but it's alright for what it is. There's better out there in my opinion, but there's also plenty that's much worse.
Path of the Shaman
An extremely strong martial arts master is on his death bed and is about to pass on, when a subordinate manages arrives to feed him something that's supposed to save him. Despite this, the subordinate is apparently too late, and the master dies. He however awakens in the body of an apprentice from some other sect that uses a different cultivation method. It's once again, an adult in some teens body who trains to get stronger and regain his position at the top of the martial arts world. An evil man forced to live in the body of a disciple of a good sect. As he trains and fights and makes enemies and gets allies, mysteries crop up one after another on his road to achieve his goals. I like the story so far, it's got no superfluous romance, although I did get weird BL vibes from the character designs of one or two of the senior disciples which was funny. No actual BL though, and not really any het love either. Though waaay later in the story some girls do take an interest in MC. The art is good and the plot is pretty interesting. Our main character can be a little annoying at times, but it's mostly fun watching him go about living his new life. The cast of characters is growing a little more numerous as the story progresses, but thankfully the rest of the cast isn't being dragged along, which doesn't overwhelm the reader with trying to remember who everyone is. The characters are fleshed out enough to be distinct and memorable. The translation... Well the english isn't unreadable, but names and terminology change a lot between scanlators and it gets confusing trying to identify what sect, merchant, person they are talking about. Some left terms like "sasuk" with no explanation what that was, as well as some other terms and names that changed over some chapters as well. Calling merchants "tops" was... very weird, and also mc being called "master uncle" by his two students is extremely distracting with how unnatural and weird it sounds. Should have just left the original korean term or whatever, cause it just doesn't work in english. Even though it's Asura scans there's a lot of weird grammar, like unnecessary "of"s, "the"s and "a"s in sentences. Think I saw someone in the comments say it wasn't actually asura scans but some other translation group taking their credits page and pretending? I don't know if it's true, but it would make sense for the state of the english grammar. Perhaps? Weird af though, and utterly pointless if true. I think the mystery is engaging, and the story fun to follow along. Perhaps the other characters roll with mc's antics a little too easily, but I can't bring myself to mind as they are all slowly (and I do mean slowly!) but surely corrupting our evil MC's heart with decency. lol
Saving the Villain Who was Abandoned by the Female Lead
This is a fucking weird story. Person gets isekai'd into a novel they were reading. She decides to save a dude from the novel protagonists murder attempt. He's apparently a bit of a villain, but also completely not and the reason for the murder attempt is cause he didn't return the novel protagonists feelings? What kind of batshit trash novel were you reeading MC? It's not even that the novel protag was misunderstood as a hero, it's not a twist, MC read about her murders in the novel, and apparently liked it enough to continue reading it! Ahem... anyway, so MC saves the duke from getting poisoned by novel protag. First he thinks MC is an assassin then he figures out she saved his life, (MC gets turned into a child for her trouble) and decides to reward her. ... By sending her to be adopted by the "villains" of the original novel for 3 years, after which MC comes back to get married to the duke she saved. Because... it'll get the imperial family off the duke's back...? It's weird. I get the part about the villains being the only ones probably able to break the curse on mc and turn her back into an adult. I don't understand why she needs to be adopted for 3 years. The tests MC goes through to get adopted are weird. She drinks poison, is fine for no reason. It's not explained, and MC doesn't think it's weird. The poisons were real, she has no immunity, she was expected to die, and for some reason the duke just lets it happen. Another test involves her (as a SMALL CHILD) fighting a giant ass wolf. In their parlor or throne room or whatever that place was. With everyone present. The wolf didn't even attack until she turned around and swung a knife in it's face and then she turns her back to it to ask for help. Like??? It didn't feel like she was ever in danger, but what was even the point of any of it? The tests are weird. Nothing matters, there are no stakes. Who the fuck cares about any of the characters, cause I rapidly learned not to give two shits. Once MC gets turned into a child, the duke appears to start developing affection for her. He intends to marry her. I don't wanna think about the implications there, but damn the story sure the fuck doesn't. I don't think the translation is very good either, cause it called the giant ass wold a spirit and then called a dragon a wyvern. Anyway, I'm utterly baffled by this story, and am dropping it like a hot potato, cause I can take weirdness just fine, but I cannot abide things that don't make sense in a story that fails to make me care about any of the characters.
Seduce the Villain's Father
Eh, not for me. The MC doesn't seem in touch with reality. She's a fan of the character she meets when she gets isekaid into a novel, and ignores all the shit he does and determined that he is nothing but kind and she should marry him. She's an obsessed stalker who, frankly could be just as much a villain as the dark magician who's treated as the actual villain of the story. Then her obsession is further exacerbated by the fact that she'll die if she doesn't get that good good holy power in her. <_< Just really rubs me the wrong way, this whole thing.
Life of a Magic Academy Mage
Apparently, according to this webtoon, grad students in korea get turned into slaves by their professors and aren't allowed food or rest. >_> Yeah... ok. This is the story of a poor grad student who just managed to graduate and immediate gets run over and reincarnates into a fantasy world. He grows up and attends a magic academy. He's OP, but not in a fun way. He's just naturally really talented, mature cause he already had the mentality of an adult and good at everything because of him being used to things thanks to being a grad student. Except that's bullshit. He's spent at least 16 years growing up in this world and not doing grad student things. He may have recollections, but because he wasn't actively practicing those things his skills and instincts will have deteriorated during those 16 years. Or however old he's supposed to be when he enters the academy. We're never told what he's a graduate student of, so that further muddies the waters. He barely struggles before getting the hang of things and it gets less and less fun to follow. He's also pretty bland. Merely "nice" and driven to get himself a career. But there's barely much else to him. The rest of the character's aren't that much better either. At the beginning he's supposed to struggle more than the average student because of a certain attribute he has, but it literally causes no issues for him. He's still the top of the class and learning things faster and better than others. I usually like OP protags, but because this is basically slice of life it makes it much less compelling and after a while it gets boring. The art is alright, though there is a bit too much reliance on exposition narration rather than showing things with art. The translation is alright, but as said the art could be used show more rather than leaning so much on exposition. It's middle of the road, and therefore in the end, quite boring.
God Of Blackfield
An amazing mercenary is betrayed and killed during a mission. He reincarnates as a high school kid who'd attempted suicide and finds himself with a loving family and new ordinary life in south korea. He wants revenge and goes about trying to figure out how to make that happen. This was interesting and fun at first, but unfortunately there's one thing that's a pretty big part of the story that I can't stand. It's harem-ish for one thing, and I hate that, but more than that, is the one love interest that's a high school girl that he doesn't immediately and outright reject. He strings her along, even though he clearly thinks to himself that he's 29 and implies the girl is way too young for him. Secondly there's a french 26 year old woman that kind of gets obsessed with him and her response to him proclaiming he's in high school is "well I'm french." Bitch what? How dare! Don't like this author's idea that all french women are pedophiles, or that the protag is stringing along a high school girl he's at least 10 years older. The rest of the premise was really interesting, but can't stand to idiotic romance in this. Just no.
Doctor’s Rebirth
A young Korean man who's dedicated his whole life to his job as a doctor goes to a war torn country as part of a doctors-without-boarders program. The war gets to their ramshackle clinic, and our MC gets gunned down. He wakes up in the body of a young child in um... murim Korea times. He's among a bunch of dead and injured people, and goes right back to doctoring despite being in the body of a small child. From there he meets people, figures out he's in the novel he was reading, meets a medicine master and learns the ways of this strange world he's now in. Really liked the beginning where martial arts magic was partially explained with modern medicine. Was really interesting and I liked that aspect a lot. As MC learns more martial arts however, that aspect kind of stops, as martial arts magic starts to take over and is no longer viewed through the lens of someone steeped in modern era science. There's occasional bits, but it's rare. It's a bit sad. Also, the passage of time is at first is kept track of very well, but in the later chapters I completely lost track of how old MC's body is now supposed to be and how long it's been since he reincarnated. I thought it had only been 2 years but at some point there was dialogue talking about him learning martial arts for "several years". This seems to happen a lot in this kind of webtoon, and for the life of me I can't figure out why. It always breaks immersion for me when they do that. =/ Translation ranges from Asura-scans, which is mostly good, to something that continually confuses pronouns for characters previously established to have other pronouns. Also bad grammar, but mostly understandable, so it doesn't ruin the reading experience. I really like MC, he's shown to more clearly struggle with learning and getting stronger, especially when he fights foes. Dude is always panting lol. There is some potential with side characters that feels mostly wasted as they aren't used. Like why didn't Mr. Archer who swore loyalty to MC go travel with him as a body guard? Dude is super strong and then the medicine master wouldn't have to worry as much? But no, friend can't go with him, but the fucking dog (that doesn't belong to him, why is he with MC still??) and the birds are fine. <_<;; I thought they were gonna do something with archer dude, so it's a shame the author wasted him like that. We don't even see him much anymore, what was the point of keeping him in the story? And that's kind of the problem, MC has his quests and goals, which were compelling enough to keep me engaged, but after thinking about it, MC is the only character I care about. Everyone else is kind of one note and just there (except for the master and possibly the fox guy). No-one else has any character, and you don't really end up caring about any of them because you don't get to know anyone. MC has people he cares about and who care about him but it all feels very superficial somehow. Anyway I do recommend giving this a read and seeing what you think for yourself, it's good fun if nothing else! =)
Worn and Torn Newbie
Eh... I've tried to get into this one a couple times, and I just can't for some reason. I can't even quantify what that reason is exactly, but I just want to click away and stop reading every time I start reading. Not for me, I guess. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
