Trash of the Count's Family

Ongoing | elegant yoo ryeo han 유려한,pan4 | 2019 released

Good story so far, no annoying love interests, no harems, none of that shit. Intriguing plot and fun interesting characters. The pacing is pretty great too, and so far nothing has out stayed it's welcome. Now the art... it's good for the most part, beautiful even, however there is one failure, and that's older or old people. They look like crap, the wrinkles don't look like they organically belong on their faces, it just looks bad. Which is a shame cause the rest of the art is really good, but every time an old person is drawn their face just looks hilariously shit. (☞ ͡ಥuಥ)☞ EDIT: 08/2024 These latest chapters feel like they're skipping big chunks of story? It just feels choppy and I have no idea if it's actually like that or not since I never read the novel this was based on. I'm starting to feel like I would enjoy this more by dropping the webtoon and reading the novel instead. The art has apparently also changed. I only noticed cause people seemed to have noses suddenly and the old people were drawn much better. Some don't seem to like the new art style, I think it's fine. An improvement even.

The Reason Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke's Mansion

This was pretty addictive and good. A shame about a few things, like there's quite a few things that are sort of brought up as significant and aren't actually. Everyone except the leads feel somehow underutilized and in some cases underdeveloped. The female lead gets quite a few inexplicable talents that are never explained and end up being straight up plot conveniences. Some story beats feel a little unearned because of the underdevelopment of some of the characters, and the transitions between scenes can feel a little like there's a few pages of comic, if not an entire chapter of comic, missing. Justin is fun... but also annoying and superfluous. I don't wish him gone from the story, but at the same time he didn't have anything to do, which is a shame because that could have been fixed by having him more actively engaged with the rest of his plot, like his sister or something, and then his existence would have had more depth and meaning. The way he was used just felt like another obstacle for the couple to have to traverse in their quest to get together for realzies. Which yes, is important for stories, but at the same time shouldn't have defined this character in his entirety. There really should have been more to him. As with pretty much the rest of the supporting cast. The humor was pretty on point most of the time. The reactions of the characters being a particular highlight, and i love the way the female lead thought about and handled things for the most part. Could have done without her obsessing about events that were highly unlikely to happen due to the simple fact that Raeliana never died, so obviously certain things would have no reason to occur. It wasn't badly handled, it just stuck out at me. Noah was a riot and actually managed to come off as intimidating and hella dangerous at the beginning, something that not every author making use of this trope manages to do properly, so that was nice. There was plenty of fun banter, and the translation was consistently understandable and legible and actually good. At least the english of it was. I don't understand why people have who have no idea how to string two words together in english decide they want to try translating comics on the internet into english. Just why?? It utterly ruins the story. There's so many dog shit scnlations on this very site that are just so utterly mangled, that there's no point in actually reading the story as it's rendered utterly unenjoyable. Not having to constantly correct grammar or rearrange words and letters into something that makes sense elevates the reading experience. Who'd have thought! Ever so slightly disappointed that instead of defying and overcoming her fate, the lead instead follows it to the letter. Also not a fan of the goddess stuff at the very end. The "next-life" thing felt very unnecessary to me as well, but that's definitely a personal preference kind of things.

Interesting series and a serious plus that the fat protagonist stays that way for a good portion of time and many chapters and doesn't immediately lose all her extra weight by, i dunno, breathing different or some bullshit like that! ( •̀ᄇ• ́)ﻭ✧ The story keeps you interested and for once the romance isn't forced, or contrived and cliché, but natural and well crafted. I'll be honest I really disliked the Prince at the beginning to the point I thought him ugly. By chapter 77 I had to go back and see if the art had drastically changed because suddenly i found him more appealing. The art style had changed a bit, but not enough for the discrepancy, so I'm assuming it's because I've come to actually like him, which is nice and great story telling! I liked the coloring, but the art style at the beginning I found a bit iffy, and there was something about it i didn't really like. Pleasingly, it has gotten better, and I no longer have any qualms with it. I like our protagonist, she's smart, learns from her mistakes and is overall kind of believable. Things that bothered me include the way we don't get enough of a feel for who the protagonist was before she reincarnated, we don't really see why she has the skills she does, or what she did with her intellect in her previous life. Also, as with many of these types of stories, she gets used to things too quick. She died somehow and was reincarnated in different era, in a world she read about in a book. She doesn't think of trying to get back, she doesn't seem to miss her old life at all, she just gets on with what she has now and what she has to do immediately with no drama. It's a good thing in a way, because it allows her to actually do some bad ass things and be likeable and all, but at the same time, it just feels like she's accepted everything way too easily and adapts too quickly. There's no grief for the friends/family/significant other she may have lost, and we get to know next to nothing about her previous life. This is a nitpick, and frankly I still liked the story despite all this and many other similar stories handle this about the same way, but it's worth mentioning all the same. I wish these stories would show us a little more of the main characters missing technology, or indoor plumbing or something.

Father, I don't Want this Marriage

Ongoing | Hong hee su | 2019 released

There's some definite weaknesses in this one. One being that most of the plot, frustratingly, focuses on misunderstandings between... well everyone. There's so much miscommunication in this that it made me anxious and frustrated. Just not for me I'd say, except that some of these miscommunications could be solved quite easily. There also seems to be some flip flopping with the MC. She's reincarnated into this life, but at the same time it's like she isn't? It's not explained well, and it wouldn't matter too much, but because there's so much in the story that already bothers me, this rather inconsequential- Actually scratch that, it *isn't* inconsequential, the father is a main character in the story and so it's the difference between "protect my daughter" and "my daughter's dead and there's another person living in her stead". That second option has some delicious angst to be had, but sadly I didn't like the story enough to see if the author ever did anything with that. (´︿`) The romance between the leads is adorable! And completely free from the context of the story I would say it's some of the best I've read. However *with* context of the story it becomes rather contrived ("because the plot says so") and at times idiotic. The father has been emotionally abusive to the daughter her whole life, and then once the reincarnation happens he changes, but neither character addresses this abuse, so it just becomes a giant elephant in the room that everyone ignores with increasing awkwardness. Because it's never talked about it robs the story of any catharsis of her confronting her abuser. And make no mistake, no matter how good intentioned, what the father did was indeed abusive, even though he is otherwise characterized as a good man trying his best. His best, in the case of his daughter, was shit. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ He does get better, but that's not the point. They don't talk, which just builds on the frustration already being piled on by ALL the F***ing misunderstandings. Also as customary in these stories the male lead kind of passively deceives the mc. Like, he probably didn't mean to at the beginning, but as the story progresses it's more than apparent and he MUST have noticed his non-intentional deception by now, so the fact that he never uh- "comes clean" to her goes from "oops" to *actively lying*. Which would be fine, except the story fails to establish a valid reason for this. At least at the point to which I read, which was till ch32. The story really isn't that bad for what it is, but it's clearly not my cup of tea, so I'm dropping it here. If you like misunderstandings and comedy, don't mind certain more serious things being played for laughs, than this is for you! Enjoy this mostly light hearted tale!

Marilyn Likes Lariensa Too Much!

Not for me... I got as far as I could, but the fact that the male lead is so firmly established/hyped as being basically a monster makes me totally unwilling to get too deep in this story. Especially as he tried to force a kiss and initiated unwanted touching already a couple times. Marylin in a panel is shocked she was scared being with him, meanwhile I'm just like "girl, you know him to be a monster, why wouldn't you be scared while with him?? Why would agree to go somewhere quiet with him?? Scream at him right there in the hallway for all to hear, it's your best weapon!" But she's so single mindedly focused on protecting her friend it's just annoying the things she just doesn't see. I can however see how some would love this so that's fine. She handles a lot of situations quite badly too, but after thinking about it, it kinda makes sense. Still i can't stand to see it so I'll just drop the story and move on. I love her friendship with Lara, but it frustrates me that in Marilyn's quest to protect Lara she doesn't treat her as someone who could also help. She doesn't even lean on the brother, though I suppose she was hoping to ignore that situation until it fizzled out. Which is sad, because a decisive end probably would have been better. Hell I was hoping she would tell the brother she was in love with Lara so she'd get him off her back. Would have made things more fun, but then i suppose it would have required an additional "ai" to the current genre's "shojo". (´︿`)

So this started pretty good and interesting. Wasn't all that happy about the harem aspect, but I was able to ignore it in favor of the characters and good art. Unfortunately at around chapter 61, the translation takes a sharp turn and you can barely tell what's happening anymore. It's unfortunate and kind of rage inducing. The mangled english is terrible and I'm sad cause it's making me miss a lot of important conversations and emotional story beats. Honestly, if you have no grasp of english why insist on translating into english??? It's idiotic and I'm certainly not going to thank that kind of translator, much less "buy them a coffee" or "support them on patreon". Might as well read the original korean, and pay the actual original creator of the comic. >_>

Lady Baby

Ongoing | JU Hyeon, Pingmin | 2000 released

An interesting tale of a girl who... goes back in time to her birth after a series of unfortunate events (she doesn't die). Mystery should be one of the tags for this, but I didn't add it because... well it's window dressing for the plot. For me, the plot doesn't focus enough on the mystery, and there's just too much fluff with the family. Also it's basically a harem story cause everyone is just falling for MC left and right. ML is only properly introduced around chapter 80 or something, and everything else is just everyone fawning of over how cute, pretty and smart MC is. They slowly introduce magic and mana, but not very well, and it's just not my cup of tea. It's honestly mostly slice of life, which is fine for those who like that sort of thing. It, unfortunately isn't what I come to Isekai/reincarnation stories for. Everything is a slow burn and therefore I find myself equal parts intrigued and bored. I do recommend giving it a try, as the story isn't bad, it's just not for me. The translation starts good and then there's once again a series of chapters "translated" by people who don't speak english. Also come chapters have missing pages and it's just.... a mess and a half to get through before someone who has basic knowledge of english makes the story comprehensible again. It's a shame but you miss some important interactions and world building because of the gibberish translations. The gibberish comes in around after chapter 90? I think, and it's like 10-20 chapters before it gets better. =_= sucks. The Romance makes you pray for more time skips. Also it's a reverse harem so it's already not something I'm into. Ugh... I just... I don't want to read about older people in child bodies making moony eyes at each other. It's just uncomfortable. Nor is the romantic moments between 5 year olds better or at all good. Just... Nope, dropping it and looking for something else now, before I end up on a watch list or arrested. (ಠ ∩ಠ)

This is another "reality is a game" kind of story a la Solo Leveling, only the mc in this is pretty much an asshole. And I do mean that in the most affectionate way. Like House from the doctor show from years back. He's a smirking badass who's also an asshole. Story is revenge driven and fun to read. Something that bothers me a little is that I get the feeling the character knows a little too much about certain things. I think it's just not well established, but a lot of the darker dealings of the Messiah guild the MC knows about, I was under the impression he'd have no way of knowing seeing as he was being used and MC thought everything was in service of saving the world and shit. =/ Otherwise, it's fun, no romance just intrigue and action. Return Of The Legendary Spear Knight

So this starts off great, and gets you pumped for the beat-downs to come, and does deliver on those for the most part. Then things start to get complicated when it starts telling us about the other kingdoms? Empires? whatever, and their own inner strife and political intrigue, and... I just can't keep all that shit straight. Can we please just focus on what MC is doing and stuff that he is directly involve with please? It's getting a bit too crowded and taking away some of my interest by showing me stuff that's kind of boring. And that's because it's an exposition dump. Exposition is good, but only when introduced correctly, this feels like I was pulled away from the comic to read a history textbook. But for the most part the plot is good and the story keeps you engaged and honestly I love how smirky and confident the MC is. Also, everyone is hot.... Like seriously, the vast majority of characters regardless of how advanced in years, are hot. What is happening? All the villains and good guys are all ridiculously hot! Also, also, is there a missing shonen ai tag or something? MC sort of acts disdainful towards all girls, mentions a significant woman from his past who he specifically makes clear he wasn't in love with, but calls the pretty boy pretty and makes him blush and caresses his face a little. What? It's fine, and a nice twist I guess... And dude is nice only to guys mostly. Oh! Also, MC's mom! For someone who was so important to mc, she's basically a plank of wood. She is so underdeveloped that MC might as well have been hauling around a painting. And she's barely in the story despite him being all happy at managing to save her. She isn't shocked at the change in her child, she isn't outraged at someone trying to murder her and her son, she seems to have barely any reaction other than mild worry, or motherly smile. There is nothing else to her and it's frustrating, because in the end she's not a character, but an object to be saved. Was there a need to keep her alive at all? Especially when she's kept around and treated as important but in the end is shelved by the author. The author had mom accompany Mc to the capital and live with him in a house and then had her move out "for her own safety" and then she was never heard from again! She's finally written out of the story, which is good cause the author clearly had absolutely no interest in her. What is she in the story for?? ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Edit: Aaand now at ch 94 this is starting to look like a harem after all. All the girls are falling for him and wanting to marry him, which is annoying. Fortunately it's not interfering with the plot too much. As of yet anyway. But there has been one "cat fight" over the protagonist already, which is a bit disappointing. It's not gotten unbearable and I hate harems, but it's something to keep in mind for anyone not into that sort of thing.

Another interesting story ruined by some group who can't actually translate to english, they might as well have not bothered and uploaded raws. You get about 61 chapters of story you can understand, and then you get chapters translated by people who don't know enough english to make sense. It's a shame, but I'm gonna have to drop the story. MC has a lot of trauma to work through, she's bad ass but also broken as she barely ever smiles. It's sad, and a good story. I would recommend it, except for all the chapters that need to be translated by someone competent.
