Talent-Swallowing Magician

This is about a little mage boy who comes from a very prestigious family, but who has his talent snuffed out by getting sick with some sort of disease that affects him in no other way except to keep him from using magic. Because of this his family status hits rock bottom, because women don't matter I guess (he has a sister who isn't sick and so can use magic). We don't get to meet the sister directly, and while I don't think this is a bad story, it's not really worthy of the rating it has in my opinion. This story is non-stop action. It is pretty much all action and very little character. This isn't to say the MC is unlikable or boring, but that there isn't enough emotional pay off for the story beats. MC just constantly gets into fights, grows stronger, and in the end it just feels like grinding in video games. Very little plot development happens, and even after 40 chapters of story it still feels like nothing has happened plot wise and that we are *still* doing prep work for the story to begin. MC's interaction with other characters feels empty and superficial even as there are desperate hints that things are deeper. It's a shame, but I do understand the people who dropped this because they got bored... there isn't much to latch on to. The author tries to hit emotional beats during arcs, but just doesn't quite manage, and I can't put my finger on exactly how they mess it up. It just needs... more. The art is pretty good, but also there's a lot of reusing panels and cutting away from action to save on time. There was one panel in particular that irked me, which was one where mc, his best friend and some of his friend's family were sat down having tea, and both mc and his best friend were drawn in the exact same position. It made sense for the best friend because he was leaning on an arm rest, it did not make sense for mc because he didn't have an arm rest and he was right next to his best friend so it looked even more awkward. Also the explanations on magic and stuff is simultaneously too much and also badly explained. Mc supposedly swallows "talent" but when he manages it they don't really explain how he does it, the art doesn't really convey it either. For example if I were to cosplay as the mc and try to "swallow talent" at an anime con it wouldn't work cause I'd have no idea how he actually does it. All in all there's much better stories on this site so I wouldn't really recommend this one. There's too much exposition, the mc's magic system is explained rather badly, his own level and growth is shown badly, the art would be good if it actually illustrated the story better, reused panels less, and the emotional pay off for most of the story beats is insufficient.

This a cute and sweet little story. The art is good and the translation for the most part is on point, except after chapter.. 75? There's translations by different people so the names change and it can get confusing. But the ppl who translated chapter 76, and 77 are bad. Anyone reading can tell from context that a character is referring to someone else, but for some reason it's translated as 'I' and the sentence structure is bad. Overall bad enough to ruin the story. It sucks. The story itself is pretty much what you would expect from the title. Cute little daughter is cute, charms the whole sect, and learns martial arts while having adventures. I like that the reincarnation happens from birth, so the main character isn't just replacing the original in the middle of the story. I just got done reading a reincarnation story about a family that's real loving but unaware that the original person is dead/gone and the person they're loving on is someone else. It's not a bad thing, and gives the story some good angst, except that in most stories it's never addressed properly. The characters are likeable and some of the plot is actually predictable, and sometimes the adults come off as being a bit dumbed down so that MC can shine. There's also a love triangle thing with 2 guys falling for MC and it's slightly annoying, but not too bad. Except when one tries to get the other killed and it's resolved a little too easily. Character development for the most part is good, and there's some pretty dark stuff in there too. Stuff to like stuff to not like, but in the end I would recomend reading the story, well unless only bad translations get uploaded in the future. It's pointless it if the translation is ass.

Suddenly Became a Princess One Day

This is the story of an orphaned girl getting reincarnated as a princess from a novel she read. The princess was secluded in a palace and then eventually killed by the king, MC obviously wants to avoid that and so tries to do so making use of all the stuff she can remember from the novel. The art is good, the characters- well mainly MC and the king are interesting and the mystery that slowly reveals itself is pretty interesting. It's also legible! Whoever the translators are/were knew at least what they were doing in regards to the english language, which is always a plus. The King/father is legit terrible, and kind of gets better little by little, but doesn't reeeaaally do much to actually redeem himself. Still the father-daughter relationship is the heart and soul of this story, and I cannot help but like the development. After binging through it for a day I stopped and the next day when I came back I found there were a number of things that ended up bothering me and that also I don't actually care about anyone but Athy (MC) and by extension her dad, the rest of the characters are just... kind of there. There's romance and love triangles and hoo boy, is the love triangle kind of problematic. MC is a grown ass woman in the body of a baby and then a little kid and then pre-teen. She's 14 at the point where I got to, and like... she has some sort of crush on the white haired kid? He's like 16(?) at that point but she's thought of him as hot before too and I'm like ??? Excuse me ma'am? Are you a grown ass adult perving on a child??? Wtf?? The other guy is some kind of immortal wizard, he's really old, and it's better 'cause MC is an adult and so is he. I wouldn't say we've been given any especially clear indication who she ends up with, though i really really hope it's with the wizard rather than the child. ⚆ᗝ⚆ I found it annoying when MC comes across someone whom she could probably talk to about her reincarnation, but somehow doesn't realize/understand/want to and continues to hide the fact despite this person making direct reference to how old she "actually" is and being pretty trust worthy. In other stories characters hide who they are because they usually get reincarnated into the body after the original has been around for some amount of time, but here there's no reason why she needs to hide it. No reason not to just go "Oh! You know I come from a different dimension? Neat!" There's a few other things that seem pretty obvious and MC comes across as a little stupid, but otherwise it's not bad. Would recommend giving this a read, but also keep in mind some of these relationships are kinda fucked up.

An old martial artist dies, and wakes up in the body of a young man who is the first born son of a countryside baron. MC uses his knowledge of martial arts to get stronger and be the best there ever was as per usual with these kinds of stories. It's good, I like mc, although it is a tad more violent and perhaps outright immoral than I'm used to. The lives the MC takes are no weight on his conscious even if he was technically in the right. He does not give a shit if you aren't one of his people. The art doesn't match the cover for the first 20 chapters and can lead to readers wondering wtf. The art at the beginning is really not good for the type of story this is, which makes it a relief when the artist is swapped out for someone with a more appropriate style. Although I will say I do feel everyone's a bit too pretty in the new art style, but will take it over what was before. If you like these sorts of stories with over powered Mc's than this should be right up your alley. Translation can vary. But is mostly understandable even if the english isn't perfect.

This webtoon is insane. I love it. As the summary says, it's about a guy who seems to be a civil engineering genius who dies in Korea and wakes up in the pages of a novel he'd just read. He's in the body of an alcoholic first born to some frontier baron. Everyone pretty much hates him, and he's destined to die along with his family at the beginning of the story to propel the story's protagonist on the start of his adventure. MC has none of that and uses his civil engineering skills to avoid dying. The art is fun, and fits the story, by which I mean it lends itself to action scenes well. I love how "evil" our MC looks all the time despite him doing absolutely wonderful things. His relationship with the protagonist of the novel is a really fun dynamic, though sometimes (I feel) they seem a bit cruel to each other. They aren't really friends, but you can tell they have some affection for each other. The plot so far doesn't contain any love interests for Lloyd, though as the story progresses and his achievements become greater and greater, father's do attempt to marry off their daughters to him. I don't know why everyone says he's extremely ugly, I don't find that to be the case, but I suppose next to the novel's protagonist he might be a little plain? He certainly makes no effort to dress more like a noble, so that really might just be on Lloyd. He likes his browns. (๑˃́ꇴ˂̀) The only thing I didn't outright like, and this is a personal preference thing, is the textbox. I don't find it funny, nor do I feel it adds much too the story for the "system" to have such a pronounced personality. The humor of it didn't quite land for me, but that's fine, the rest is really good. The characters are likeable, the story is great with a lot of comedy. The translation isn't good for most of the 90-something chapters, but passable. A variety of groups have translated chapters and they change intermittently. Because of this, the names for most characters changes constantly and it's annoying. The translations aren't word-salad level of bad, and I was able to keep reading, though I did have to rearrange words in my head so sentences made sense and also omit words that just didn't belong in sentences. Night scans has a proofreader that doesn't seem to have that much of a grasp of english and I hate that they get paid for stealing other people's work, then translating it. I'm just not down with this, which is why I never "donate". Anyway, this webtoon definitely deserves it's high rating! It's a fucking riot of fun and I highly recommend getting stuck in! ( •̀ᄇ• ́)ﻭ✧

Ori of the Dragon Chain -

Complete | Sime,cadet | 2000 released

It would be alright, but it has a slow start and A LOT of exposition. Any time anything is brought up, a long ass stream of narration and exposition comes in. It slows the pace of the story down to a crawl and you get several chapters where things that should be a bit quicker to happen, take forever. The story is about a kid who moves from the countryside to follow his girlfriend into an adventurer's academy. Rumors wreck his relationship with his girlfriend, and because his abilities stagnate, he's bullied and shunned by the student populace. MC finds a samurai lady to train him in the extremely dangerous nearby forest. The training seems to be only marginally helpful, and then he defeats a dragon and gains better abilities. I dropped this after that cause it took forever, and I ended up being bored. Also some other factors, but I wont spoil them here. The art is good, and the translation (no idea about the accuracy) is good legibility wise. No word salad, so you wont be stuck trying to decrypt every sentence. Also no useless gratuitous fanservice for our underaged characters. Well, so far anyway. Also it doesn't seem to be a harem either, which is good for those who dislike that sort of thing.

The S-Classes That I Raised

This is the story of a guy who's borther dies. Because of his abilities in this game like world he gains power and is able to defeat the monster that killed his beloved little brother. The item he receives for the kill is used to turn back time, and from there mc's adventure really begins. The mystery aspects of the story are introduced slowly, but are extremely compelling. The characters are all likeable, but at the same time they grow to be so many that it's starting to feel like too many characters to keep track. I liked the beginning because there was a lot of wholesome hugging, and there's less of it now. I want more, though I don't know exactly why, but I want more wholesome hugging. Mc's kind of traumatized but it's not really followed through on that much, and there's one real abusive relationship which is initially treated pretty seriously, but then sort of brushed aside a little. Still the story is too interesting to really care about that too much, at least for me. There's some morally grey stuff, although some aspects of that, while addressed, aren't fully explored. At least not yet, there's definitely room to get into that, which keeps things interesting potential-wise. I adore the beast tamer aspect of the story, although I would have liked more time with the unicorns. But that's just me. There's barely any unicorns in fantasy webtoons and I find that a bit sad. Would be nice if they were as common as dragons. Anyway, I digress. The translation is good, the art is great so I recommend giving this story a go.

Ranker who lives a second time

I've almost dropped this story a number of times. I get bored and just as it gets to the point where I'm almost ready to give up, the story picks up. The most compelling aspect I think is the revenge. Younger twin dies, leaves behind a diary that somehow makes it to the older twin, and older twin chooses murder- I mean revenge. Revenge murder. Anyway, the story feels like the author wasn't sure what they were doing at the beginning. At one point it almost seemed like they were writing the story as if the first twin had reincarnated rather than leaving diary entries in a watch behind. Also it was very unclear as to how much info was in the diary to begin with. Like i thought what was shown in the initial exposition sequence was it, and was very confused when mc knew about and talked about things that were not included in that sequence. At time I thought he knew waaaay to much about the world, that the brother would have had no reason to write about all that in his diary. There's a love interest that I'm not particularly down with, although they themselves don't actually do anything bad. The girl isn't allowed to fight or anything though. It's implied she's very strong and stuff, but she never fights, or we never see her fight. Which annoys me, cause she's supposed to be a warrior martial artist. <_< The action isn't depicted particularly well through the art, I'm often confused what's happening and sometimes the action is skipped altogether so the artist doesn't need to draw it. This changes somewhat in the later chapters, but there it seems to devolve into lots of lazer firing. I wanna see mc kill all of his brother's murderer's but it's pretty slow going. Also I don't understand why mc bothered going to that world, he'd given up looking, thinking the twin had abandoned them, and just decided he didn't care. Mc's mom died, some years later the brother's stuff makes it to him, and he decides to just go off into the fantasy world. In a way it does make sense, but in another I don't understand why he ended up caring. It would have been nice seeing mc resent his brother, grieve, but ultimately come to this decision of going up the tower. A lot of the thought bubbles are weird too, it keeps containing narration, which is weird since it's supposed to be mc thinking about things. It's very odd. The translation ranges from passable to good, but yeah weirdness with the narration being in the wrong place and speech bubbles that issue from characters who aren't the ones actually speaking. This could be better, and the artist and writer need better communication so the art can actually depict the story better. All in all, meh... it's alright, give this story a go if you wish. It may be better to just read the novel though. Unless the translation for the novel is dog shit.

The Hero Returns

A guy burdened into becoming humanity's champion to fight against monsters coming out of dungeons, finds himself the sole survivor of the human race and then is killed. He reincarnates into the body of some other boy, years before the apocalypse and sets about trying to save humanity again. The beginning is kind of choppy, I dunno if there are pages missing or what, but there were a couple instances where I was left wondering if there was a scene missing. Exposition is not dumped on the reader in huge amounts of text, there's less of it and the plot keeps you engaged. I wouldn't say this stands out among all the other series that feature reincarnation and game-like worlds. Although perhaps the cast of characters so far is mercifully small, something I sometimes find gets a bit out of hand with other stories like this. There are some plot threads that get set aside and take time to get resolved, which made me initially uneasy because I was afraid they would get abandoned. They didn't! So it's all good. So far, there's no romance annoying or otherwise, which also means no harem, for those who hate that genre as I do. MC's new mother is only there momentarily and is otherwise pretty much written out of the story. This usually annoys me, because why introduce family if they aren't going to do anything interesting with them? However I do like the way the mother was utilized in this, even if her presence in the story is short. The emotional connection and motivation she provides is well done, and her being left out of the plot soon after feels more natural than the author running out of ideas on how to make use of the character. It still bothers me a little, but only in the way that I would like more character moments where mc sits and talks to people and relaxes and lets the story breath for a minute. Sometimes stories like these fall into non-stop action, and this ends up exhausting the reader. But I don't feel it's gotten to this point here... yet. I got up to chapter 61 and am annoyed with the turn of events that ends up introducing us to a new character. But that's just me. If you like this sort of stuff with an OP MC, than this is definitely for you. The mc isn't an asshole and is actually pretty nice, though not to the point of being a cinnamon roll. There's no fan service or cheesecake, people aren't sexily losing their clothes in battle. The art is good, and the english is good barring minor grammar hiccups here and there. No word salad chapters here, thankfully! Though I think there may have been one chapter with some pages out of order, but while it was noticeable it didn't hinder reading the story. All in all? It's fine, I'm not inclined to drop it. there's the main goal the Mc is working towards, but there's some fun little side quests that are fun and not presented as check list fetch quests. I would like more emotion and connection in this story (there's so much hinted, but largely unexplored, angst!!), but it's alright for what it is. There's better out there in my opinion, but there's also plenty that's much worse.

I'm a Middle-Aged Man Who Got My Adventurer License Revoked

Ongoing | Ononata Manimani, WATANABE Itsuki, TADAURA Fumi | 2000 released

MC used to be real strong, but suddenly and mysteriously contracts some sort of disease that eats away at his health, to the point where he has to quite being an adventurer and gets his license revoked. He decides to leave town, unable to support himself and being derided cruelly by his previous companions. He comes across an injured monster that isn't actually a monster, and decides healing and breaking the curse on them is worth giving the last of his life for. He gets better, adopts the girl who had been cursed to be a monster and starts traveling with the girl. This should be fun, it is fun. It's kind of action and slice of life story set in a fantasy adventurer world, with this father-daughter relationship at it's center. I like it, and usually like good guy MC's, but this guy... he's kind of a doormat. He forgives people a little too easily and has a death wish with how easily he's willing to throw his life away, even when he's regained all his strength and power. Like they have 2 of his previous party members be absolute shit heels to him and then one of those guys is immediately forgiven and MC allows him to muscle into his quest like everything is fine. I don't like that. There's a difference between being kind and being a doormat to toxic people treating you like shit. I mean the guy does change his attitude cause MC is strong again, but it pisses me off that there isn't so much as an apology in their first meeting and MC just lets him barge into his life like it ain't no thing. There's a bunch of things I've been curious about since MC found his daughter, but haven't gotten answers even though you'd think MC would have pondered this shit at some point during his journey. It feels like the author is withholding info just to be mysterious, rather than any plot related flow. There are few things I hate more than contrived stories, whether they be mysteries, romances or action. Anyway, my dislike is largely due to personal preferences, so I would highly encourage anyone to give this story a go, if they feel so inclined. The art is great, the translation good, and there is no harem or forced and annoying romance. Just family feels and lots of cooing over the cute little girl. Sometimes she feels more like a pet than a child with wants and needs, but that's just me.
