July's manga / #Reincarnation(8)

Wan Gu Shen Wang

Ongoing | Huang shaoxing man | 2019 released

Male lead died and reincarnated to redo his life. He becomes super OP because he already knows all the best materials and ways to get them, etc. The translation killed the story. With each chapter, the story makes less and less sense because the translation gets even worse with each chapter. It's like someone tried running the lines through Google Translate multiple times and then changing back to English. The art is not bad, but it's very hard to tell what the heck is going on.

Back To Rule Again

Actually, I didn't like this webtoon in the beginning, because the male lead was so unlikeable, as typical of OP heroes. Even worse, he gathers a small harem of beautiful girls in the first five chapters (it only gets bigger from there). But it does improve slightly with recent chapters, although not by much~ Well, at least he's become slightly more likeable, because he cares about upgrading everyone mostly equally. Also, he hasn't shown any signs of favoritism or romance towards the girls, which is a plus for me, since it's so, so easy to devolve into mushy lovey dovey crap that doesn't make the story any better, and leads to pointless arguments or something. It's still somewhat interesting to see how the story will unfold from here, but I'm guessing he will not really encounter much way of obstacles besides his own teammates dragging him down. He gets lots of beautiful girls in his harem but they're all basically useless in the end since he always ends up having to save them.... Sigh. The art is decent, not the best, but it's serviceable for this genre of webtoon. His ring is OP and it can store infinite amount of items. I'm not sure why he's so good at fighting since his skill is actually forging. His girl companions are all idiots who are incapable of defending themselves, even against fodder enemies. He also picks up two trash guys as team members, and they're also extremely weak. I think this webtoon has potential, but it's definitely hard to see through the pile of plot armor crap the author has surrounded the male lead with. I'm hoping that he will have to actually face some strong difficulties instead of wiping the floor effortlessly every time, but I won't hold my breath about this actually happening. The translation gets worse with the newer chapters, and there's lots of grammar and spelling mistakes. Don't read if you don't want a headache.

I think this webtoon is very promising. The female lead has good character and strong resolve to avenge herself in her past life do-over this time around. I can completely sympathize with her, just from the prologue. This is good storytelling at work. The panelling is amazing, it efficiently uses the webtoon format to convey sense of movement in time and space, I'm very impressed. The art is up there, although I feel sometimes it's slightly inconsistent in quality a bit, but not too noticeable. I'm hoping for good things for this to come.

See You In My 19th Life

The female lead has lived through 18 lives, and when she died in her 18th life, she wanted to remember the little boy whose life she saved when she's reborn again, and she does. Now she wants to see him again as she lives her 19th life. I think the interaction between the characters is nice, although i feel she was killed off too quickly in the 18th life. It didn't show so much depth in the relationship so as to make such a huge impact on the boy when he is growing up, in my opinion. Basically, the pacing was too quick there since it's clear the author wanted to kill off the female to rush to the next life for the main story, which I think hurts it. I didn't feel any emotion when she died to protect the boy, since the relationship hadn't been properly developed. It's just not that sad. I also think having 18 lives is overkill, because she doesn't really mention the details of her past lives and why this boy is so special, compared to everyone else she had met in other lives. That's the main problem with exaggerating the amount of living someone has gone through (also with people who are immortal), because in these types of stories, it's just difficult to believe that someone has met their fated one when they've already experienced everything life has to offer. So I'm not a fan of making someone immortal or lived lots of lives and remembered everything, because it raises too many issues that will never be addressed, in my view. It would have been more realistic if she had remembered just two or three of her lives prior, since that's enough to make someone tired of living already. 18 is far too many, and more is not better. The art is decent, but nothing spectacular.

Although the set-up was a little weird, since the female lead was incredibly stupid in her first life, she seems to be aware of her mistakes after dying once. I like how she's trying to change herself, even going out of her way to ally herself with the man who killed her, because he's probably the only one who cares enough about the country to help her in this re-do. The art is not bad, I like the details on the backgrounds and scenery. Character designs are also good.

My Eunha

Female lead learns her boyfriend of 17 years died of a plane crash on the night he proposed to her, and she wants to turn back time to fix their relationship. She gets what she wished for, but it seems her past isn't what she remembered. There are several moments and things that have changed around, and she wonders if she can make her old boyfriend fall deeper in love with her this time around. I'm confused what their old relationship used to be before time was reversed, since it didn't really show many problems, besides that they were drifting apart, and that she felt somewhat suffocated in the relationship. That's not really enough to go on, since now she's back in time, she seems like she's heads over heels with him all over again. And the only reason she wished to see him again after learning of his death was because she did love him? So I don't know why she was so unhappy in the beginning. Maybe it will be addressed later. And surprisingly, the art in the actual webtoon is much better than the cover art, which is rare, since usually the cover art is gorgeous and the actual art is crap.

The Lady Wants to Rest

I'm not a fan of immortal beings who've lived forever since mankind began, nor of people who've reincarnated countless times and remember everything. These types of stories lack creativity, because no one has possibly experienced this in real life to write a character that could have actually gone through so much. Every life is different, and if you don't know what it was like, you can't write about it, because you're limited by your imagination. She says she's been a mage, a swordmaster, a musician, blah blah, and now she'll just chill for this life. How unappealing of a character can you be? You've supposedly gone through all this and you're not going to try something different this time around? Yeah, I don't buy it. No one can live a life without doing anything, it's impossible. Things will happen to you, regardless of what you want. I thought you would already know that, having living so many lifetimes, hmmm? Yeah, she's just stupid and I can't like her. It's a little despicable and insensitive to people who are struggling to live out just their one life here AKA us normal human readers. The art is above average though, so I'm just going to blame the writer of this webtoon because they're completely uninspired.

Haha, the female lead is funny. It got a little confusing when it started talking about their previous lifetimes, though. I thought it was unnecessary, because they could have discussed this in the main story than in the introduction. I'm not sure how much I'll like this webtoon, but it's alright so far. The art is average at best.
