How to Change a Path Full of Thorns into One Full of Happiness
This promotional webtoon did a poor job introducing the characters. I don't know who anyone is, and who is even the main character? I'm guessing it's the girl called Karne, but is she also the naked woman in the beginning? Is the blond man from the beginning also the guy at the end of the chapter? What the heck? The art below average, using blurring to be lazy, instead of properly drawing out stuff. I don't know what the plot is besides some rag-to-riches type thing, and that's not compelling enough for me, because there's so many out there and you haven't given me a reason why this one will be different from the rest.
A Concubine's Daughter and Her Tactics
The female lead, 11th Miss, is not stupid, but she's not villainous enough to steal the spotlight, at least at this point. She's just lying low, and biding her time to see if she can find a better life for herself. Having so many siblings, it's not likely she'll ever be favored by her father. I'm not sure if her birth mother is still alive. I'm curious to see how she'll grow as a character. I appreciate the family tree at the end, that's a good reference to who is who, thank you author! The art is pretty good for this webtoon.
Exceed 1
Mediocre BL, with zero character introduction, just jumping straight to sex in probably the next chapter. It's pretty obvious where this is going. The male lead is going to be the sex slave of the king of the country that conquered his. It's an overused and common plotline, and although it could potentially be interesting, just from the execution in the first chapter alone, I can tell it's not going to be a detailed nor an engaging story. There's no set up, and I don't care why the male lead is being captured, etc. since there's zero emotional weight given. Also, what is it with webtoons and coming up with the longest ass names for their characters? There's no way they expect readers to memorize such ridiculous crap, when most of the time, all their characters look similar and we can't even tell who is who. The art is shockingly below average, using extremely simple colors and line work. But maybe the author will prove me wrong. So far, not impressed. Update: What the heck? He escaped the abusive king and ends up sleeping with the same guy but is completely different looking? That makes no sense whatsoever. What is the author tripping on? Update 2: Okay, so this was dropped by the artist. I don't blame them. The story made no sense whatsoever, and the pacing was out of whack. Just skip this trash.
Empress of the last days
Professional sniper woman isekai'd to ancient China, which is suffering from zombie apocalypse. It's somewhat funny at times, but the constant touching and suggestive poses is getting old. Action is quite fast-paced and the story sometimes jumps a bit without warning. It's not a bad read overall.
Steel Under Silk
This is terribly written period BL. It is clichéd and has a very predictable plot. I'm fairly certain that the main character will end up falling for the guy he supposedly wants to kill, and they will live happily ever after. That, or he decides that revenge is sweeter, and either one of them or both of them end up dead. There's not many ways this story can develop, as this is a BL webtoon. There is no room to expand on the universe of the story as it is severely limited by the nature of its genre. The art is alright, but I actually like Painter of the Night's style the best out of all these historical setting BLs. Although I don't particularly care for that series' storyline either. It went downhill pretty fast, just like this one undoubtedly will.
Ayeshah's Secret
The original webtoon that is later followed by "Aisha", it contains the same cast, but a slightly different plot, perhaps? In "Aisha", there's two girls who are identical twins, while in "Ayeshah's Secret" there's only one...or are there two? Well, aside from the twist at the end, it's a typical dark fairy tale turned tragedy as Ayeshah turns the tables on the wicked stepmother to get her revenge. The ending was somewhat unsatisfactory and rushed, and honestly, I didn't think either of the main characters deserved a happy ending. The art here is not as good as it is in "Aisha", but it uses the same 3D models for characters which gives this webtoon a very otherworldly look that is unsettling. Fits the tone of the story, though.
Haunted by Desire
I liked this more than Painter of the Night before in the early chapters, but just like the other BL webtoom, the quality of this one has gone completely downhill in terms of the storyline and smut. It's become super repetitive and boring, and it's clear the author is just milking money at this point with the modern day plotline.
