If You Do Not Obey Me

Complete | Ranyou,Hishougetsu | 2017 released

The art is not that great, in my opinion. Story is utter trash, it makes no sense and the pacing is speeding at 90mph. I didn't care for any of these characters. Avoid.

Ehhhhh... One of the more decent BLs that I have read so far, but not by very much. It gets an extra star for actually trying to develop some semblance of plot instead of random smut every chapter. However, it's very slowly paced, and I'm getting bored of it, since nothing really happens. You don't really learn something new about the characters as each chapter progresses, so it's wasteful to me. I think more time could be spent developing the main cast, so you'd understand their motivations, but still, at least they tried a little bit. The male lead is an unapologetic tsundere and drives me nuts, he's extremely unlikeable and rude to everyone, including his love interest. There's no explanation as to why he does this, or his internal thoughts or conflicts, so you cannot sympathize with him, even when other characters are treating him poorly. Basically, he's getting what he deserves. Since he treats everyone like trash, he gets treated like trash in return. I don't see what the other male lead (love interest) even sees in him. The art is so inconsistent. It is very good sometimes, and then awful all the other times, super jarring to read. It should be of consistent quality throughout to make it easier on the eyes. I don't find any of the characters to be handsome/beautiful, they're all just average.

Black Mirror

Complete | Muhwa,Wrist | 2000 released

It's a little better than the average BL webtoon, but not by much. I gave it an extra star since it does have a suspenseful atmosphere, and it's building slowly towards something, rather than jumping straight into pure smut. There's some semblance of an underlying plot, and the characters are not cringey, yet. The art is only average, but it does excel when it comes to the horror nightmare scenes. I don't like how this webtoon romanticizes smoking. Smoking is bad for you, don't make it appealing... I know it's a big part of Korean culture, but it doesn't help to keep promoting it like it's a good thing.

Red Candy

Art is average, decent enough for webtoons, action scenes are drawn quite well, and I appreciate the de-censoring. The plot makes no sense, but at least there isn't mindless smut every chapter, as in the case of most BLs, so I gave it a bonus star. There's no chemistry between the two male leads, so I wouldn't classify this as a romance. I don't know how the male main character is such a crappy secret agent, he gives himself away too quickly, with his behavior and martial arts skills. Also why is he so bad at lying? You'd think a secret agent would be much better at keeping secrets than this, much less a top-ranked one like he supposedly is. The two men are rather lackadaisical in their sexual relationships, they have no emotional connection forming yet, but just jump on each other like uncivilized beasts. Also Red Candy is just a stupid code name.

Fill Me Up, Mr. Assistant!

Another typical "I am the best ____, but I lost to this one person, so now I'm in love" trope. It's so stupid, but people always fall for this. It's not even executed well. It all happens in one chapter, without properly establishing either of the two characters. The art is ok, quite average for webtoons. I don't have a good sense of a proper story yet, besides that these two people will end up having lots of smut later, since one of them is an incubus.

Tennis Club's Aphrodisiac Threesome Affair

Complete | Eikichi | 2000 released
2020-08-19 17:59 marked

They want you to think it has something to do with tennis, but it has nothing to do with tennis. It's just shameless smut without any plot or set up. I don't even know who any of the characters are. Even the smut isn't drawn in a sexy way. Pass.

Quit writing, dear author!

I love the breaking of the fourth wall here, it's pretty unique. I hope it doesn't devolve into shameless and plot-less smut in the future. I was very entertained by the male lead's raging at his own fate, it's a little different from isekai, so I find it hilarious and refreshing to read about it. The panelling is good, and flows well. Art is also not bad.

Samurai for the White Wolf

Ongoing | Hayate kuku | 2019 released

A young runaway feudal noble almost dies while being pursued by a rebellious faction, and is left for dead in a forest when an immortal wolf god finds him. He's saved and they start to fall for each other because the young lord resembles the wolf god's former lover from three hundred years ago, when he used to be human. I think the pacing is the story is too fast, but it's also not interesting enough to want to read the next chapter. I don't care for any of these characters, nor their backstory. They're just not compelling enough to make readers want to know them. There's no real plot and the art is not that great, compared to most manga out there.

Capture of Relationship

This is not psychological at all, ignore this tag. This is a webtoon written by people who want to fetishise mental illnesses. Schizophrenia is a very real and serious condition, and it shouldn't be used as a cheap plot gimmick to have two guys jump each other, that's really disgusting. It's not written about in a serious nor convincing way, and you can't suppress schizophrenic hallucinations without taking medication. Also, even if you are the son of a psychiatrist, you cannot have access to a patient's medical records, that's a clear violation of medical privacy policies, and can result in the psychiatrist losing his license or going to jail. I'm sorry but you can't use real psychological conditions like this to further your own fantasy like this, author. The art is also poor and there is no plot whatsoever. Also, I need to stress that someone with schizophrenia cannot live on their own, like this protagonist does, it's very dangerous.

Where the Wind Stays

Complete | Yusa | 2000 released

I really like Yusa-sensei's works. This new one looks very promising, with a lot of supernatural elements, where the male love interest is a cursed crown prince that can control evil spirits and the male lead is a rare individual who can see evil spirits. The art is fantastic, but the redness of everyone's lips bothers me a bit. Yusa-sensei is great at developing proper romantic storylines, so I'm eagerly waiting to see how this develops.
