I really liked this but I feel like I lack media literally and a bigger vocabulary do explain why exactly I liked it Edit: After that some thought. I really like this story because it shows different aspects of society that are often overlooked: arrogance, depression, how kids are forced to grow up and fend for themselves. I‘m 100% that the Monster we see throughout the manga is supposed to be Sumida‘s depression and hopelessness. Pretty sure it’s even there before he kills his Dad? Which would show that he was always depressed considering his family situation. Later on, even after Chasawa (?) and the police offer, as well as his other friends give him hope and encouragement to start a better life and turn himself in, he the still proceeds to kill himself. That scene where he admitted that he still had things to do and doesn’t necessarily wants to die, and then goes to consult the monster which then tells him that „it was already decided“ is just too sad. Even if people give you hope, depression will always make you feel as if you don’t deserve redemption and happiness. The violent portrayal of sexuality, the rape, shouzo(?) being forced to lose his virginity and that homeless guy, who turned out to be a pervert, really stood out to me. In a way I think this is the authors way of critiquing that kids and teenagers are often forced to grow up quickly, but I feel like there’s something else I haven’t grasped yet? Maybe how japans society is dismissive of things like sexual assault and stuff?
