Psycho

Ongoing | ruki | 2012 released

Gorgeous, but incredibly sad. Hope it gets better for the protagonist :<

Shinrei Tantei Yakumo

Ongoing | kaminaga manabu | 2000 released

Fun little mysteries with likable characters. Some of it is quite predictable if you're observant (the outcome of the cases, the standard character tropes, etc.), but it's still enjoyable to watch it all unfold--especially since the artwork is consistently pretty. Those reasons aside, Yakumo is gorgeous and his love for books, cats, and sleep is adorable. 5/5 Stars

Ousama Game ( Kanazawa Nobuaki )

Complete | kanazawa nobuaki | 2010 released

Very disappointing ending--like, I almost wish I hadn't read the whole thing so intently. I love being in the thick of a good mystery, but this was a cop-out. The ending scenario was on my list of weak possibilities and the fact that it played out that way is, again, very disappointing. *********As far as spoilers and rambling goes...*********** **** *** ** I thought for sure it would be protag's bff since the protag conveniently avoided death thanks to him so many times; as well, maybe he had a crush on protag's girlfriend, which is why he'd set himself up to bang her--or maybe he had a yandere-esque crush on the protag since the message gave the order with such a short amount of time to be completed and it had to be someone immediately in the room. Maybe when he pit himself against the prostitute he wanted to measure how much the rest of the class actually wanted him around, which he figured might confirm his hatred for them--but that never happens because he trusted protag's ability to prove his worth again. He missed a day of class due to illness which was suspiciously glossed over (at this point, it may have just been a random plot hole)--and, assuming bff is the king, he seemed sincerely shocked by the message he received saying that protag had died when he hadn't killed him or sent out the message himself. When he handed protag the noodles he bought for him, he said "courtesy of the king" and while he may have been speaking in general terms/jokingly it seemed to catch the protag off guard. Additionally, his death wasn't nearly as dramatic as the others: he grabbed the die to, once again, avoid protag's death knowing that he'd survive it himself. He rolled a 6 because the die was loaded and would wipe out several other classmates. As well, I assumed that when he had "lost" his arms that maybe they were props or the like because that would've been easy to fake. Finally, he'd have gf die in the final round so that he and protag could be together once he explained that he was the king, his death was faked, and now that everyone's gone they could be together in an twisted yandere relationship. I swear, I thought that's where this was going//I'm the worst, I know. Ultimately, why would a virus want to make a bunch of schoolkids get it on like a game of truth-or-dare gone too far? Did their deaths mean anything? How did the virus make people literally explode--did I miss how it's able to become a tangible entity? Why did it follow the same plot as "White Noise" at the end ("Oooh, technology+wifi is the devil~~")? I don't think it should be thought about too in-depth or else the plot gets even more thin :/ Ugh, my head hurts from this let down and I'm probably mistaken about my ponits because I'm tired but mehh. 3/5 because the art was enjoyable and, at one point, it was thrilling.

Tourou No Ori

Ongoing | psyche delico | 2014 released

Loving this! Both storylines are great and I love the way they interconnect. The drama is sincere and the emotional repercussions of the past are expressed in very realistic ways. It's hard not feel sympathy for each character-- well, except maybe the father that caused all of the tension in the first place. 5/5 Stars

Aku no Kyouten

Complete | Kishi Yuusuki,Karasuyama Eiji | 2000 released

Devils Line

Complete | HANADA Ryou | 2013 released

I want more of this! It has just the right amount of suspense to keep you on your toes and the characters are well-developed. Even though it follows many of the standard male vampire/ female human tropes, the female lead is not another Mary Sue; she exhibits bravery, wit, and complexity--traits which are very much appreciated in this genre. Her role makes this story not only palatable, but worthwhile and interesting. 5/5 Stars.

Moritat

Complete | Lee Seon-ui | 2000 released

This story really plants doubt in the reader's mind. The twists and turns are all interesting (it's currently at chapter 37) and I'm still not wholly convinced that things are as they should be. Who knows? I, for one, do not. 5/5 Stars with anticipation.

Sora o Daite Oyasumi

Complete | kyuugou | 2009 released

A very sad tale, indeed. I like where it's going, but it's really quite tragic already and I don't know how much my heart can take. 5/5 Stars for good, but sad, storytelling that holds my interest.

Never Understand

Complete | Bbong | 2013 released

This was cute! The amount of physical bullying in the storyline is oftentimes too overbearing but, much like in a real world setting, I suppose this cannot be overlooked or easily changed. There is a lot of personal depth in each character which only further develops as the story goes on; additionally, the drama is organic, the comedy is enjoyable, and it's deserving of 5/5 Stars.

Coponicus No Kokyuu

Complete | nakamura asumiko | 2002 released

How unfortunate it was that I had merely glanced at the first few pages and decided to go back to my more preferred artistic style to read several months ago. I'm glad I went back to read this. The story is beautiful, dark, and captivating. It's easy to feel transported to a different world, one with poignant poetry and flowing, inky figures which contrasts the colorful cast of characters all taking place in a bizarre circus setting. I cannot recommend this enough, both for the strangely beautiful imagery and the incredibly deep story: 5/5 Stars.
