It's because he might seem overbearing but ge really cares a lot about her, he's in the in denial stage. He's sensitive to her and the way men around her looks and behaves to her. He don't go around acting like she's his toy and possession, he gives her freedom and trusts her as much, but he don't trust the men around her.
