People in the end of the world who have a strong willpower to stay alive [9/10]
Being honest, I don't know how to feel about this manhwa. First of all, i think the idea of this apocalypsis was pretty original, but I still have my doubts on how this worked. It doesn't fulfill me the explanation of the souls doing a revolution just because humans are so greedy and violent as their desires shows. In my understanding, we are souls: desires, willpower, envy, greed, are the things that makes us who we are, it just completes us; everything that we are is in our souls, bad and good things equally. it's our essence after all. The fact that the soul just wants to fight right now it's weird, since there is no reason when it is all of the things it says to hate. If i go with that train of thought, then it's also its fault and has to be destroyed equally as the body, as I don't think that is possibly to separate the souls from the body if this is just the cocoon of our physical existence. But anyway, the idea was still likeable, maybe if you split the souls between consciousness or morality or just the good and bad in the human being will make sense for me, but that's just my opinion anyway.
About the characters, at least some of them (Jay, Hyun, Hyuk and his sister, Jisu, Wook, Dusik, the two kids and the other one with the bandana, and also the one who could control his monster) are likeable for me. Every on of them showed the nature of the human being: the terror and the cruel things that come along, but also the desire to live and the things that could make us be better and fight for ourselves and the others, or have some bit of hope. Every relationship that the story had was good in my opinion: we had friendship, family, the born of new loves, the typical power-relationships, but also the ones that we have with ourselves too. Even if our actions are bad or good, in the end of the world the only thing that you want is to survive, so the actions of the majority of the secondary characters were understandable since they were guided by the fear of being dead, still it's not justifiable; the protagonists on the other hand shows us the typical people who have difficult pasts, but in the way of their journey, they find forgiveness and reasons to stay alive, they find how to overcome their difficulties and also how to keep their own humanity in this new era of monsters. My favourites were of course Jay (my catholic man, how i suffer his death), Wook (that ex-cop is really something, fell for him), the two kids (they were adorable, but also incredible strong), Hyuk (even though i disliked him in some parts, he was pretty good... God i hope he survived), the lady who becomed a baby (she was too strong for fighting her mosnter, and also for not becoming one when she died; her backstory about her baby was so sad), and last but not least, Hyun.
About Hyun i'm still in a crossroad, i don't know if i like him or not. First, about his past. The thing i can say is that i understand his perspective about his family. The fact that his parents nor his sister weren't with him in those difficult times where he was bullied, and also to just told him that he had to bear with that (although his father could manage to resolve the issue) was so messed up; and his sister just being embarrassed about him... No, i really couldn't stand it, it was just so unfair, even the reason of his bully to target him: just because that rich boy didn't want his cents when he was just helping him was freaking crazy. Just seeing how nor his family nor his friends stayed with him and had his back, made me want to cry. So of course Hyun would become a sh*t of a human being, that was the only way he could unleash his fury and dissapointment towards humanity. Though it's not justifiable too, it is a good represantation of how a good person could turn in the worst selfish and trashy human being when everyone turns their back on them. In second hand, I like his development. How he went to just not care about the world to save everyone, was pretty comforting since i like to see the growth in the characters. The think i liked about him is that he could find his own family, and even though he forgived his, still could find some warmth in that messed up world. The third and last one thing, is the way of him being half monster-half human. The represantation of him fighting with his self and desires, to try to protect what he found, is enjoyable; but i get into a point where i really wanted to see how he could control his power, because he had it for a reason. Yes, he could let his inner self in the darkness, yes, he had a lot of control on his soul, yes, he had a lot of reasons to go bersek and still managed to come back everytime. But i wanted at least a little bit of strong and intelligence as the other one who can control his monster. I get how much he was terrified, and how mumch he was fighting with his self, still i just wanted to see him being the last hope of humanity when he could destroy the monster. It was at some points tiresome to see him not being able to pass through that darkest inner thoughts he had, and just crying or being sorry for himself. BUT, i have to say that, at the end, in an apocalypsis, he is one of the realistict characters that i have seen. You are not going to be strong, nor a hero, nor most of us will be able to control or do what he did; he passed though a lot, the fact that he had to fight not just outside, but inside too, makes him one of the strongest characters. and that reflects it too at the end, when he is in his final form, with no more desires or emotiones as the other one said, but still, even if his eyes didn't show anything, he was able to smile and cry, showing us that he could fight again against that thing that was inside him, and be outside as himself to see the new world through new eyes.
Now, about the ending, i have to say it was so cool. I liked how Hyun just turned into that knight of his game, he looked badass as that, i wanted to see that since the middle of the serie, but as the end was good. The encounter of him with the others was satisfying too, how images without any dialogue (just the music) can make you feel too many emotions is incredible. Still, I'm just waiting for Hyuk too, i really really really hope he could do the same as Hyun, he is strong after all, and was a good person who just wanted the best for his group.
Anyway, the story was enjoyable, the characters were good, and the ending becomed on of my favourites. Over all is a good manhwa of action and horror.
