I think the best thing about it is that, it shows how fucked up everything became even if the rulers in the prequel were ''good people'' because that's how it actually is in real life as well. You can't trust power, and especially so absolute power, because the state of the common world so heavily relies on the tendencies of a handful of people who would do anything for their own interests.
