His aether is definitely the right answer, but it's not only that. He's drawn to the prince personality. He felt "saved" both physically and emotionally whenever he's around Jesse.

But he is a big big tsundere and a selfish stubborn bastard. I guess in his head he still think that he needs Jesse only for his Aether and already convinced to make Jesse his priest partner for life

And just to let you know that this manhwa/novel never focuses on love because it's glazed by the plot system known as lifetime partner.

Basically something like Cardinal Boutier and empress frederique. They're besties/sisters and can even become borderline "romance" to the readers if not for the fact that Empress Frederick has a husband she's totally in love with, which is Cedric's father.

Initially it was because of aether but I'm pretty sure later on it's more towards personal since he's actually the only person Cedric have open up to completely outside of his family. I'd say it's a mix between the aether and also his own personal feelings, as Jesse was just a prisoner(?) in the country (like it's a temporary stuffs, Jesse technically could leave if he wants to?) Cedric probably felt insecure and feels like Jesse will leave him. it doesn't need to be romantic to have possessive feelings anyways. It could be platonic but yeah. Also he keeps Jesse away from his sis also out of protectiveness (he knew Jesse got treated badly in his country, though he didn't knew about the sister) And insecure of the possibility Jesse leaving the country and go back to his original country.

At least that's how I understand it lol

Tho I'm pretty sure aether also play huge part to his possessiveness.

i thought everyone already knew his sister isn’t the danger to him? the girl found out, the empress and i think the cardinal too. i get he cares about him, but the possessive is kinda too much… Jesse can’t even have a vacation in the little village
like i get he’s scared his friend is gonna leave, but there’s a limit to how much you can control someone and be possessive of them. in my humble opinion, i feel like Cedric is kinda crossing that limit.
BUT WE’LL SEE LOL, in future chapters. maybe this thought i have will eventually fade away

The novel is finished at 990 ish almost 1000 chapter iirc. I only read till the translated part, still 200 ish. And I know a bit what will happen to the venetian siblings but I won't spoil you

This is some chapter far far ahead of what I actually read too, the spoiler came from those that read the korean raw novel. I might have remembered some of them wrong so take them with a grain of salt.

So...

OGJesse is revived back!
So actually, the current Jesse (Yeseo) actually died once, he was killed by that bastard werner (HE ACTUALLY SUCCEDED). And the 2 countries went on war after that.

But thankfully, it seems that OGJesse's body is being preserved as it was, so one way or another they're able to bring him back. Iirc, the siblings should be able to reunite some time, but it was not for long... because Elise, the oldest sister died near the end of the novel.

Honestly I don't know that much since I too, only saw the spoiler... but I remember the spoiler said that Elise actually saved werner after he killed Jesse, but it's probably because what she saw is not him killing Jesse, but the crown prince almost killing werner in his rage after seeing Jesse's cold body
Because after that they had a war, she probably died in the war... werner is as tough as a cockroach...

And what I remember is that either Jesse/Yeseo/both are crying in anguish when Elise died.

Yeseo also reunited with his siblings in his old world (korea) because he died, but he stubbornly searching for a way to go back to the other world to "take responsibility" by jumping from his apartemen veranda lol , and then many things happen,

In the end he did become a pope in this world because he is destined to become one.
