asuka's father needs to rot in hell, seriously. his feelings of disappointment and displeasure towards his mother should not be projected to the child, no matter how gave the sin (infidelity) was. i am so glad zaizen (although he has some ulterior motives which is most probably love) saved him.. cause jfc it's just so sad that the mentality of being an "atonement" for his mother and not being "deserving" to be happy became deeply ingrained in him.
