Since we are throwing around opinions, my opinion is that readers nowadays can't read complex characters, storylines that arent happy go lucky. "Healthy relationships" are nice to read but some of us like depth, destruction and salvation. Some of us like good character depth and complicated plots that dont go in a straight mediocre line ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ﾉ~

I love how y'all assume just because someone hates on a particular rape fetish manhwa they automatically can't handle anything other than pure fluff and healthy relationships. Or conversely, that just because something has "destruction" and "salvation" it's automatically deep. Everything you listed is great if executed well. One of my favourite BLs deals with child trafficking and abuse and the main characters aren't exactly saints. Stop pretending your fetish manhwa is deep when half the comments want "old man yaoi rape," pregnancy sex and are just being horny lol. You're free to like whatever you want and I'm free to hate on whatever I want.

I read those comments. That was literally my last straw. I avoid that fandom like the plague because of how insane they can be and I never would've made this post if they didn't exceed my expectations each time I thought they've hit rock bottom. They don't really believe in redemption as much as they try to claim that. They believe in instant gratification. The gratification of seeing a "toxic ML" be so regretful and changing through the power of love or whatever BS they believe in (even though that would realistically never ever happen) and the gratification of seeing the villain be "punished." Their idea of justice is so childish it's pathetic. If they believed in redemption they would extend that grace to every character as long as they cry and regret their actions. Also wasn't the ML the one who sold the guy into sexual slavery in the first place? (I haven't read the sides. They gross me out). And we're supposed to believe he redeemed himself? I saw comments wishing to see "old man yaoi rape" with 60 upvotes and I'm supposed to believe these people really read that garbage for the "depth" and the "salvation" and not to jerk off to rape? Idk who they're trying to fool atp.

I haven't read that yet but I've been wanting to for a while. My fave is Canis (specifically The Speaker, vols 4 to 7). It handles trafficking so realistically in terms of its effects on the victims and how it operates. It's really good!

I've come across so many BL fans of rapist x victim stories but I've never seen anything get defended to the extent this one does. It's wild. All because the dude cried and had a panic attack, lol. They're so dishonest. I'm not even ashamed to say I have more respect for people who admit they're rape fetishisers outright than I do for them. They hide their fetish behind a desire for "justice" or compassion for a "redeemed" character. I do enjoy my fair share of problematic stuff too but I won't cry and defend it because I'm self-aware enough to know what the characters do is objectively bad. Their egos are so massive they take any criticism of the story as a personal attack. You can always count on them to bring out the "don't like don't read," "you're reading illegally so you can't be critical," or "you're confusing fiction with reality!" They're so predictable. The last one is especially funny to me because I've seen them seriously argue that rapists can change and that they can become loving partners. Some of them even argue that all couples rape each other at some point (would hate to know how they came to that conclusion). They're all either a bunch of degenerates who disguise their weird little fetishes as morbid curiosity and fascination with the criminal underworld or just really naive. I've seen them rec that manhwa to people who ask for wholesome BLs with siblings. I can't imagine how delusional someone needs to be to think that crap is wholesome in any way. Anyway I can go on and on about how trashy they are lol. Can't wait for the day the sides end so I don't see their brainless comments on feeds anymore. Also will def read that one as soon as I have the time. I'm taking a break from reading to focus on other stuff rn but I promise it'll be the first thing I pick up when I get back to it.

Especially if you really like the story, I mean many readers on this site have different thoughts, sometimes some respond very politely and kindly, and sometimes many respond very rudely. And with that many readers, it's impossible to correct them one by one, so it's better for you to enjoy reading the stories you like without having to think about other people's comments.

Thank you. My mood isn't ruined. That was just a small rant about something I noticed that happened more than once so I felt like sharing it. It's definitely a pattern and cements in my mind that certain stories attract people with poor reading comprehension skills. That's all. Most of the time people take informative comments really well so I keep replying, especially if it's a story I really like and have thought about extensively it's fun to interact with others even if I find that their takes are poor.

They are probably newgen and/or on the younger side who got into bl after/during covid so they don't really have a good "etiquette" in these kind of spaces. I often see them saying their first bl was Jinx which makes sense and that attracts and makes a certain type of fanbase. So yeah because they use as base and foundation those kind of stories with a bland or non existent plot they are only used to make dumb comments. Not that it's bad or anything, I myself read Jinx and enjoy other bls with little plot and leave dumb comments on them too but I do agree that for webtoons that are more on the complex side is way more fun for everyone reading to leave a well thought comment, especially after a plot heavy chapter that was made to let you make theories about the story. It is a little annoying reading every two comments "I don't understand what's going on when are they fucking" but I guess that's just the stories they're used to... And maybe (for everyone's sake, both theirs and ours) what they should stick to haha

I never used this site during the pandemic, but yeah I've seen so many people mention that it got many new users during that time so that makes sense. The idea that someone's first BL would be Jinx is wild to me. That's such a bad introduction to the genre imo. I enjoy a lot of fun light and smutty BLs too and leave stupid comments but those types of comments really don't fit under the more complex stories and would just make me sound dumb. You can't treat a complex character the same way you treat a one-dimensional one for example. People should def read whatever they want but sometimes it's very clear that a reader isn't mature enough to fully understand something and they just end up frustrating themselves and other readers. Maybe try devilman? The story is kinda about a queer one sided love story of the mc and his best friend but focus on so much more beyond thier "love" story. It talks about the end of the world and how humanity act under the pressure of knowing it's going to end and really has beautiful takes about what make us humans and the ties that biunds us also contains christian symbolism. (The manga is old so the art style may bother you a little, netflix did a reboot while ago but beware that while the story is still enjoyable, they changed alot of things and alot of events/characters..etc but still loyal to the main concept.)
(Also the end may be confusing (fun fact it is what inspired Evangelion ending) but if you read the sequel "Amoun" it will helps you to understand what happens, also I love devilman so much so i you read it, i can explain the ending to you if u want to)

Other stories i can think of that have queer charcters and queer love story as a side plot is, yuri on ice, bana fish and no6. They all have a plot that focus on something while maintaining a queer love story that isnt the main focus and for the The last two, it is more of implicit then it's explicite.

Ao no flag is also a good recommendation, while it is alove story it doesn't like entirely focus on the queer side rather it focus on the coming age aspect of high school love and the struggle of teenage years.
