But if you read from his pov, he paid Dan for sex. And Dan agreed to have sex with him. That's already a consent in there. Now we are slowly getting to know his part of the story and how he started to see the repercussions of his mistakes. And I love to read stories like this. Bad maybe they are but this is not reality.
