I really loved this, not only the fluffy and soft smiles etc but how realistic the author was in the seme coming to terms with his sexuality. It's something a lot of people struggle with, and it's not really portrayed in manga often enough.
I said the same thing, I love how he saw the sick and got confused on what he wanted to do instead of seeing his sick and accepting right away, I feel it's different from other yaoi and I like that

I feel like it can only really be classed as a romance if there's some sort of progression, maybe I'm forgetting parts of the story but I don't think they even realised that they like the other person yet? (realised their feelings were love and not friendship).

Hmm no I mean there wasn't a moment when they thought to themselves 'oh, I really like him' is what I mean. I agree there's romantic elements to the story and I think they like each other, but I wouldn't class this as a romance because the characters themselves never came to the realisation and the relationship never went anywhere. I just think the author rushed the end of the story a bit considering all the angst we had it was resolved too quickly etc.

But for me his character actually seems pretty caring? He isn't arrogant, he just was excited to meet someone on par with him and challenged them to a fight. Plus, he was using his wish to make hers come true. And, he seemed genuinely worried at the end of the fight because he realised he got carried away. Lets also not forget that hardly any of their population knows anything about spirits, how was he to know he could kill/seriously injure spirits? etcetc. I can see him becoming a friend/love interest in the future to challenge ash.
