Mielle is a born and bred lady, who has everyone do everything for her. Why would she try to do anything by herself, when her role which she has accepted is to marry her beloved Oscar, tie the two powerful families together, and overthrow the emperor?
The thing you have to see it is from her perspective. If she had put more thought into it, like maybe Isis would (unfortunate she is not instructing Mielle properly) or Isis' father, who manipulated the situation with Asterope. The puppeteer does not have to dirty their hands, if played correctly.
