I think JK will see the hollow side of Dan when his mourning like his unreachable and suicidal always. Affecting him at some point, making him suffer more because he cares for Dan. So much so to the point his presence adds fuel to Dan's misery he'll leave him alone and set him free. I don't know this just my opinion. But I'm hoping for some sort of plot twist.
