I've been reading this manga for God knows how long, so I understand everyone's frustration with the introduction of new characters, especially considering what is currently happening with Norio and Kunimasa. But I'm guessing that the reason for this new batch of characters is to explain more in depth the powers of heavyweights and what locking your soul does. Granted I might be giving the mangaka too much credit but the last arc was focused on mer folk and their monstrous powers, which goes back to the hierarchy. I know she loves adding characters but I feel like each one has a greater purpose than we first give them credit for.

But I liked the the first story. While I can't read Japanese, I still checked out the raws and it seems to me like it's more of a dubcon situation rather than the seme just being an asshole. A lot of people seem to just see the uke as being weak but I don't think that's the case. So I read the first volume when it was first on this site and when I saw it had updated earlier this year, I wasn't looking forward to reading it, mostly because I was imagining an extremely tragic ending. But what a fool I was. This was a great story and gave us the best ending we could ever hope for.
This has just left me extremely conflicted and I'm not sure why. Like I've read a lot of manga with shitty characters, but this one just feels a bit off for some reason.
The problem with our protag is just that he doesn't care about anyone. I know that he probably doesn't deserve what is happening but you can't just mess with people and expect no consequences. He's an asshole who messed with a crazy person.
1) how can you tell that che doesn't care about anyone? We really didn't see much about him. He wasn't doing well at the start and he doesn't seem to have much of a family.
2) even if he didn't care about anyone(which is debatable) he still doesn't deserve to go through all this.
