isn’t a female knight called a dame or am I just trippin? ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
So this is a bit murky because while the story kind of follows the nobility titles of the British monarchy, until the 1900s no women were ever actually given a knighthood. Becoming a knight in the archaic sense meant going through knight training (so becoming a squire, then apprentice and then becoming a knight). However by the time the first woman was knighted and given the title 'dame' in the 1900s, there wasn't really a traditional knights order anymore with the traditional knights training.
SO, a dame is an equivalent rank of a knight, but its connotations are a bit different. 'Dame' IS still an earned titled (as opposed to simply 'lady' which is a title bestowed by marriage to a noble or to the child of a noble), which means that someone who is a dame earned their title by their deeds or actions, but that can be accomplishments from the arts, sciences, etc. but it doesn't mean they've gone through the training to become a knight (in the traditional sense).
So now that the brief history lesson is over, I'll conclude by saying that in modern times, dame and knight are equivalent ranks and titles, but as this story follows the more archaic depiction of a knight order, then there's not much historical precedent to say what a woman's title would be if she became a true knight (by going through all the training and stuff).
In other words, there's not really a right or wrong ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
I know y’all r gonna be disappointed in me...but can someone please tell me the exact chapter of the novel?? lmaoo ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
I reply because I also want to know so don't mind me. :)
