Saw a lot of comments on Liz-hate but I actually genuinely like her character? I don’t think she’s realized she’s using a charm spell, since she’s a bit of an airhead, and if people have been acting that way since birth she probably doesn’t even realize something’s wrong. Plus, she doesn’t seem like a white-lotus demon bitch you typically see in the ‘heroine’s true character’, which makes me like her more.

This entire manga is about Alicia going on to become the ‘Greatest Villainess’, but like she said, you can’t be the greatest villain if you don’t have the greatest hero. There’s a reason we think of ‘Joker’ whenever someone says ‘Batman’, and vice versa.

I like the fact that, as far as we know, Liz is a stereotypical otome game heroine, but we’re looking at it through the viewpoint of reality versus a game. Politics isn't that straightforward. Idealist proposals don’t just magically get pushed through the first time and somehow it all works immediately, they actually discuss things through. Liz actually listens to Alicia when she gives her critique, but she doesn’t back down on her proposals. We see ACTUAL development and depth of BOTH characters, not just a villainess winning all the time because the hero is too stupid or evil to come up with a proper plan.

It’s FUN to see them fight. They actually feel like rivals. They feel more real BECAUSE they have lots of flaws. Do I like Liz as a ‘person’? No, although I can respect her resolve. Do I like Liz as a character? DEFINITELY. Alicia wouldn’t be able to shine as much as she does without Liz’s character being as well built as it currently is, and Liz wouldn’t be becoming the heroine she’s meant be without Alicia constantly pushing her. The brighter the light, the darker the shadows.

I love Alicia as she is, by far top 5 favorite villainess protagonists, but it wouldn’t feel right if she didn’t have the other side of her coin. I can’t help but feel that this is what female rivalry done right looks like.

Words can't describe how happy I am to know there is some sort of progress in their relationship and it started off with the truth with Charles. Charles is a living evidence of Sasya's guilt and affections. He chose to immortalize his sin and his guilt by taking in a child that bore semblance to the lover he abandoned. I find it so pitiful and heart wrenching Sasya lived the way he did. I don't think anyone who lived a troubled and unloved life could process Karel's affections.

Karel's love was domineering and raw, someone like Sasya wouldn't be able to comprehend that. After having lived all his life that everything has a price, it was Sasya's first time to be consumed whole with Karel's love. Like food, should it ever be sentient, it does nothing but satiate our hunger. We eat food as a whole, we don't expect anything more from it but to quell our appetite. It was similar for Karel, all he wanted was Sasya in his entirety, he wanted to devour Sasya for himself without thinking asking for anything else: "just be devoured by me and be mine". But Sasya never lived to understand that.

Considering the sacrifices and tragedies Karel had to go through, it's understandable that people perceive Sasya as a scum of the earth. What he has done is unforgivable, it's immoral and truly horrible. But it isn't anything surprising. It would have been more surprising is Sasya stayed still and waiting, but no. He lived his life rotting away in temporary alcoholism and drugs, with only a moment's of peace when he is on stage or when Charles is in his arms. In addition, what Karel has become is pitiful but just as unforgivable.

To subject Sasya in the same torment is immoral. Sasya, who has never understood love, is subjected to feel something he never knew. He was forced to cling and grovel for love when he never understood what it was in the first place. I don't think there'll ever be a chance to change Sasya. In the end, his language of love has always been transactional, something more materialistic and visual. Over the years, it's simply changed how it looks. It used to be staying with Karel, lying that things were okay, making sure that Karel gets what he "paid for". And when Karel was gone, Sasya needed to continue the transaction. There came Charles who became the collector of Sasya's debt of love.

At present, Sasya still thinks of it as a transaction. He stays for what Karel as paid for. Sasya sells his heart out because he wants to be of value. In the future, it might be the same. I don't think there's anything wrong in perceiving love as such. But it is this way of living that makes people so vulnerable.

In the same way, Karel hasn't changed. His love is all-consuming and all-devouring. He is domineering and carnal. He shows his love in a way the traps and suffocates others. Back then it was a slow-damaging kind of love. It was as if Sasya was being drowned in honey. This time, Karel is drowning Sasya in love akin to hot lava.

Karel's love that asks for nothing but complete submission and devotion, whereas Sasya's love that immortalized evidence and mutual transactions. It was bound to be a tragedy. The way they perceive what love and relationships are were are opposite ends but I do believe that someday they'll come to understand each other.

I can't wait to see a happy ending between them, they deserve it after everything that's happened.

Since I wrote this as a reply to a comment, might as well share for others. How did it get this long? Σ( ̄□ ̄||) HUGE SPOILER (READ AT OWN RISK!):

So basically this is a story about reincarnation. Long ago there are 3 Children of God (children who are loved and blessed by God). 1st child who killed his lover. 2nd child who killed her son. 3rd child who killed his parents. Because of their sin, all 3 were cursed by God to reincarnate with dark mana (or dark magic within) and remember their past lives. Once they remember their lives, they will repeat their sins. 1st child will fall in love, remember his lover and kill his lover again. 2nd child will love her child, remember her past and kill her child. 3rd will do the same for his parents. They repeat countless reincarnation like this, basically living in torment for their guilt by killing their loved ones. As you can guess, the 2nd child is our MC Aisha (I think she's the great saintess from 500 years ago who was said will be reborn again), and Abel is the soul of her child she will end up killing if she ever remembers her past due to the curse. The medication MC is taking (as seen in the webtoon) is given to suppress her power and memory so she wouldn't remember. The one supplying this medication is a priest from the temple name Mikhail/Michael (?), who is the 1st cursed child of God. And as may suspect, our MC is his past lover. Michael is planning to kill MC before he falls in love with her again so that he won't suffer the pain of killing a loved one again. The reason why MC killed her child long ago was bcuz her child was in pain/sick and she couldn't help bear to watch him suffer, so to end her child's pain, she killed him. As for the 1st child of God, he himself couldn't remember why he killed his own lover. The 3rd child of God however, watching the 2 suffer from their sins, he tried to break the curse by killing the God himself but he didn't succeed (and ended up getting cursed too, with killing a parent curse). The 3rd child of God was the most favoured and he has the power to Procreate/Create life, so he ended up creating the world for the 2 other child of God hoping for them to break the curse so they all can be free (so basically the 3rd child is the author of the book MC read).

Our poor MC will start stopping taking her medication and that's when her power and memory slowly coming back (she had both black magic and white magic in her body). That's when she realize that she will end up killing Abel if this goes on. She will want to break their engagement and ask ML to kill her bcuz she couldn't kill herself as the curse will rebound any effort of self mutilation. Oh and also she was Janes (in her past life before she dies and got reincarnated and transmigrated into current body, Aisha), the person who guided ML to save the then orphaned Abel. MC as Janes, pleaded to ML to take good care of Abel and for him to promise her to kill anyone who will come to him in the future saying that they remembered their past lives. And ML promised Janes.

And in the current timeline, after MC remembers this, she asks ML to uphold that promise. ML is totally livid and their conversation is so heart breaking. ML refused, but MC said that with the curse she won't be able to stop herself from killing Abel, and she kept apologizing to ML for dragging him into this mess of a fate. She also said that now she had black magic, she could even control ML's mind (as black magic can brainwash people) if she wants (kind of hinting she might command him to kill her using that method if he continues to refuse), but ML kept refusing and hoping they find a way to break the curse together. ╥﹏╥

Anyway, since the spoiler is incomplete and I don't have all the details, some things happened and it's happy ending! They managed to break the curse and finally all three children of God can live in peace. MC and ML got to have their happy ending with Abel, creating a happy family.
