Maybe somebody at the top in the field doesn’t like Shinobu or has something against him bc ain’t no way you have a doctorate and only working part time no matter how tight and competitive the job market is. A doctorate should be a guaranteed job.. poor sweet bby :( hopefully rich boy can help him
It really does depend on what area your doctorate is in and where you live. Just think about small animal veterinarians. There's a huge supply of people who go to vet school and yet the demand isn't there so plenty end up changing their jobs mid-career. He could find work using his knowledge as a paleontologist but it wouldn't be on the excavation sites as he wants it to be (kind of like how his colleague in this recent chapter had to stop excavations and go into the lab since the demand wasn't there). I wanted to be a small animal vet and prepared all throughout school for it until I found out how little the demand is in my area. I would have to move away from my family or switch to large animals but even then it wasn't guaranteed that I'd find a job after college so I switched my major to neuroscience so I had more options for career paths that would actually support me yet still allow me to interact hands on with patients. I know plenty of other people who had to make the same choice as me too and others who couldn't bring themselves to make that choice and struggled to find work in their field. As sad as it is, a PhD isn't a guarantee for a job.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
that’s crazy to me and very unfortunate. idk where you’re from but here in the US college is crazy expensive here, so the fact not even the highest degree you can get doesn’t secure you a job is discouraging and infuriating. I’m glad you were able to switch something else but that sucks you couldn’t do what you rlly wanted. I hope everything works out for you friend!
I’m in the same position, I haven’t gone to vet school yet. I mean the option is still there for the rest of my life, maybe I’ll go in my 30s or 40s. But after college I decided to do animal nutrition. I think if you can roll with the punches, you’ll be fine and find something that sustains and makes you happy, even if you don’t reach your initial dreams.
Also, one professor told us: “Only strive for a PhD if your field is big or you could settle with being a professor” He couldn’t become a vet so he went straight to teaching
Yeah I like working hands on with patients. I love plants and animals but I also love working with human patients too. I got my CNA license when I was in high school and I've interned in physical therapy too before. I really just want to see the people who I help face to face and build more relationships and see the change so I was thinking of going into surgery or becoming a physician. For those I feel that neurobiology was the safest bet since it'd allow me to go any which way. I'm still young and have plenty of time so I can find my way and I hope you find your way and do what makes you happy too ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~
