That's why I keep saying that the spoilers that people gave on this comment section neglected to mention the 1 minor thing that actually contributed to understanding why the emperor could be so brutal in the past, and yet at the present time, he actually has enough of a value to earn a second chance & redeem himself. The possessive thing is caused by emperor just being an emperor, they think they have the right to seize whatever their heart desires & forcefully make it theirs (remember he said that in ch 17 or so). Heun, having been raped before, naturally had some issues with his feelings for the emperor. Add to the mix, some misunderstandings caused by that same rapist brother, on the emperor's part. That together started the entire messed up situation to follow. The brutality on the other hand, is largely caused by the emperor's unique genetic traits. This is the part that was never mentioned by anyone before. That's all I can say without giving away too much spoilers that will ruin your enjoyment. (=・ω・=)
