The despair she felt when she had to escape on her own was removed here.. like the WoahMama said, the soldiers felt sorry for her.. the feeling she had and all that she has gone through to escape was left out.. it was significant cause that was the reason she was able to clear the 3rd condition.. here it felt like more easier.. in the novel, she felt so helpless that she just accepted dying because of everything that happened.. and when she surrendered herself to the guards who where looking for her, they even pitied her because of how she looked and the condition of her body..

The novel on this part is perfect. She also is the one that starts talking to the guards(btw 2 guards not one) convincing them. She is also hidden in a basement. Like she doesn't even goes out until everyone is gone and a lot of time has pass. That's how she knows she is been left out.

It was not easy to find and Cliff did not even try to look more for her.. and Edith was just so badly wounded and has broken bones that Killian even threatened to kill the doctor if words get out on Edith's condition.. here it's like she's just now afraid of the author rather than feeling helpless on how everyone abandoned her.. it was so perfect in the novel that she just had no choice but just to accept dying.. it was the most significant part since that was how she cleared the 3rd condition
