My boobs got do big and tight my baby couldn't get her mouth to latch properly and I felt like my breasts were going to literally explode. Babies don't just put your nipple in their mouth but your areola as well, but since my breasts were like two overfilled beach balls with tiny nipples sticking off she couldnot latch on properly. It was fucking miserable. I called my sister who'd had her 2nd baby four months before me and who ran a group dedicated to natural childbirth and breastfeeding and she showed me how to use a breast pump to drain off enough milk that my baby could suckle properly. The relief was amazing. I was super lucky bc I just couldn't figure out how to get it to work and I imagine it's why a lot of women give up-especially considering in America breastfeeding is considered almost taboo in some places. Which is fucking nuts bc breasts purpose is to feed babies-but our puritanical society has so sexualized the breast that some ppl can't stop seeing them as inherently sexual. Somehow I can't talk about breastfeeding in any context without going on a rant about the absurd way breastfeeding is seen in the US. I loved nursing.
