I keep rereading and dropping this. It's good plot-wise, but I can't get past the scenes with her family. And that's a whole lot of scenes at the beginning. I'm just so disgusted and upset. They suffocate me so much, especially when they're shown acting concerned. That was years of abuse. I can't stop thinking about how the real Penelope suffered, how alone she must have felt. Without amends, apologies, or receiving love, she's just gone.
It's actually rare for me to get emotional over stories. I usually just take them as is. But this... She can go find happiness and peace of mind, she deserves that life. However, I don't want to see her getting along or acting "family" with the Eckhart. Civilized or "they know each other" relationships are fine. I know what happens through the novel, so this is probably my last time rereading this. I can't anymore. I could only reread up to Chapter 38. I'm seething with anger, disappointment, and just so many negative emotions in general.
You guys enjoy reading! I'm going to go heal and learn to be forgiving or understanding. Sighsss.

The author almost got me whahahaha but u can't make me forget with just one chap of jerkyung acting like a green flag. Ugh if only he at least treated deluludan like a human being, this one hell of a consensual sex wouldve felt better. Anw next chap he'll wake up and we'll seeeee.
Was he pretending to be drunk? Not? Will he he remember? Will he get angry again? WILL HE ADDRESS WHATEVER THE HELL'S HAPPENING?

Uhmmm so I came back to say that Jaekyung is really handsome we gotta admit. But I read the recent comments and I just thought of something soooo blurgh.
What ifffff Dan leaves him. Then Jaekyung gets an accident with his shoulder thinking about Dan during a match or maybe just getting jinxed coz he got no ass. Dan appears to take care of him... then Jaekyung realizes he has feelings for this doormat and chases after him till he gives in???? Lameeee please, i hope it doesn't go this way.

Omg!! You could be right What if this actually happens ? He could actually think something like that given his state of mind right now !
Like when he thought his keyholder could cheer up Jaekyung.
How can your gift can give strength to that man ? They're not even in that type of relationship.
I can see it happening.......... "I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS HOW GOOD SIR IS" ☠

Gran dying would he a good trigger, Dan would have no more reason to stay. I don't feel like the author would do that, though. But if JK got severely injured and needed Dan for everyday tasks. I could see that humbling him. There's a little bit of foreshadowing that his shoulder is going to be fucked for good. Its obvious JK's self worth is linked to MMA. He might lose his shit if he cant fight. I'd love to see it.

Those who are reading this who are weirded out either haven't read much Chinese BL or are just clueless about Chinese tropes. With how much BL “raising your partner” stories I've read, I don't get surprised anymore. This manhua could be platonic or turn romantic, I will still think it's wholesome as long as the author delivers the story well.
I do wonder why there are so much physical and sexual abuse, violence, pedophilia, etc. in Chinese stories when they have such a heavy censorship. Maybe the audience craves these tags because they're too restricted? Idk. But take it or leave it. Don't speak things that may affect the author when we're all reading this for free, and you may not know much about what you're talking about as well. T__T

What I find odder is the idea that grooming narratives are somehow something culturally specific to China.
Or that even if it were that should somehow make it not up for discussion. Simply because something is cultural does not make it immune from discussion. It does not require silence. Certainly one should respect informed opinions but it can be rather hard to judge who knows what here.
All kinds of narratives are prevalent in different media across the globe with elements that people consider to be good, bad and in between. Those who love a good confession scene will gush about it no matter how many times they've seen it before. And those who don't like implied incest will complain about it no matter how many times they've seen it before. This is what engaging with creative works looks like.
If a title that involves a found family features side stories that imply romance between the father and son characters it's going to draw a range of comments many of which will be negative. Take it or leave it. (Folx love to give this advice but never follow it themselves.)
WHO'S ELISE AGAIN?
LMAO I WAS ABOUT TO COMMENT THAT…

I think they meant alice the forest member whose brother was held hostage
