I always thought the SL was wrong defending his mother. She committed a crime, if she was a commoner would they have spared her? He only sees her mother but can't he see she took away someone's mother and sister at very young age?? How does he think with this kind of justice he is capable of being a good king. I haven't read bible but any religious text, even if they say it is what God said. First thing first, no one noted down exact word when god said something. The followers conveyed orally what they understood to others, and that went on for centuries till it was written down. So yes all content of religious books are not right, although I like one phrase form a religious book - that what God says changed as per time and situation. One word doesn't apply to all. Human has given brains to process and choose their good karma. Humanity above all rule!
