I've read the raws, he ignored her calls and she saw that.
The ML's expectation is too high, like why does he expect her to act like a saintess when she clearly is clueless about everything that is happening, he just heard the piano sounds and expects that she must be a saint. And when he meets her he got mad at her, he's like 'why is she not like the saint'. And also FL doesn't know a thing about his life and the people around him so why does he expect that she'll be sad too
Logically you are right. But to him that was his lifeline. The torture he had to indure it was for that something pure. It might have been in his head but to him it was real. The killings he had to go through and the trauma. For years. Since he was a child and didn't know any better. To him it was all true and something to fight for. And the fact that she reacted that way for the death of "solders" was earth shattering to him. Frankly even to me as a reader her reaction felt so entitled. Yes you might be sheltered but you know what death is and you know what friends are. So why are you smiling in his face saying that. I'm not exusing his actions but I understand him
She was smiling cause his Father told her that they sacrificed for the country which means that their death is honorable, she doesn't know the truth :(
Smiling is never a good response to a death. Unless they committed heinous crimes. Not for the death of heroes. She felt nothing for their death. And what she said was just for conventional conversation. Not because she really thought about their death. And that is why he had that reaction. Because hers was not a reaction that thought of them as humans. I feel nothing when a bug dies. And she felt nothing of those heroes deaths. And lied to his face, with a smile, about his comrades
