Zayne's Manga

This was my first manhwa based on Sumerian mythology, and it did not disappoint. This is a new creative interpretation of Enki, Sumerian god of water and creation, and Utu, god of the sun and justice. I have never heard of a story where Utu's son and a black dragon fell in love with a woman. I loved the focus on Sumer, and the inclusion of Sumerian language like Lugal. I think Galtir, the term this manhwa uses to describe the leader of the sky people, may come from the term for priests of Inanna, the Gala. Inanna is also the goddess of sex, fertility, and war, so for our MC to be 'blessed' by Inanna may also explain her strength throughout the series.

As for the characters, which have warranted much criticism from readers: imperfect characters are difficult to write, the line between maintaining the attention of readers and losing them to frustration is thin. In this case in particular, I felt the author truly did craft 'human' characters all with different perspectives of love and how far they were willing to go for their beliefs. Miscommunication is a loathed trope and rightfully so but is also one that is most common in our lives. It is difficult to disclose information that risks the stability you've held on to. Could Reniae really have shared her thoughts at the most dangerous moments? Maybe, but doing so would have brought up all sorts of other complications. All major characters were all blinded by their own priorities, which made them susceptible to all sorts of deception. I think that being able to show such rich personalities is a sign of a good writer. Characters aside, and Sumerian mythology aside, this work made me cry so much! I loved the betrayal, the drama, the heartbreak, the plot, and the fact that the entire manhwa is really just an adventure to solve the puzzle of their predicament.

Several issues, in all honesty. The ending was so horribly rushed.

Re read this piece since I read it ages ago when I was younger. I have many qualms with it, but it kept me reading.
