This is exciting and all ‘cause it’s fiction, but if we’d apply this to the real world, revenge really doesn’t solve any problems. Varabus is already mentally ill and this is giving him a reason to not hold back anymore. Processing and resolving the trauma of being looked down upon for years is something Ennid would have to do by looking within himself. Not hurting the one who’s hurt him. Revenge may bring a satisfying feeling, but when it’s at the cost of someone else, is it truly justified? I think it’s better to let go, and not let that person affect you anymore. What’s done is done, and they’re not worth your time or energy.
Agree to disagree!
If you are interested in hearing another perspective, I think your opinion is subjectively right! Meaning you're rationally right, but when has revenge ever been rational? It's borne from a need of fleeting satisfaction, it amounts to nothing but you ignore that fact, blinded by hatred, until it's too late already. And to be fair, many just don't care about the etichal implications, you might deny it, but underneath it feels good to know you're better, even unintentionally, very similar to the bully mindset, right?. I think everyone has a bigger or smaller bully inside, it's what you make of it that counts, give in or not, being competitive and striving for victory is a more healthy way of letting your inner bully out if you're not a sore loser. Withouth that force you would lack ambition. Often times people just want to feel better about themselfs, whetever they cause it or not, seeing the people that made you suffer go down will make you feel better and eventually amount to nothing. And btw, the prince in his eyes is and irrational prick out for his skills and... ass
trauma and mental illness are NOT excuses for someone to bully and harrass others. mind you, Varabus put Ennid's life in danger multiple times, both openly and secretly!
this is a disrespectful take commonly used against neurodivergent people to infantilize and speak over them. you might want to reconsider your statement.
That was absolutely not what I was trying to convey with my comment at all!
Of course it’s not justified to do evil things just ‘cause you’re in a tough position. Goodness, some of the kindest people in the world have been through the worst atrocities! I believe it was the sentence: “Varabus is already mentally ill and this is giving him a reason to not hold back anymore” that led you to lecture me, and I can see how it may have been flawed phrasing, however my point with the entire comment was that after seeing his evil tendencies, I believe causing pain to Varabus only creates a larger risk of him hurting others in the future. That is just a fact, or a guess if you may, and was is in no way my trying to justify atrocity with mental illness, as I believe you thought… thanks though! I completely agree with what you said (outside of this particular context)!
No but actually, agree agree! Thank you for opening for discussion with those first sentences! It’s rare to see these days! :) My intention was to look at the rational side of things. I am myself an extremely emotional person, and I’m constantly working to manage my emotions in order to live a decent life. This was just my take on what would be healthy for these characters, however, of course there needs to be drama and imperfections in order for them to feel more human, and for the story to be interesting! So I agree with you! I’m just the kind of ass who has to put a different perspective in a chat forum when everyone is cheering for the same thing
I was also a tiny bit concerned because I genuinely believe revenge causes more harm than good and I don’t want the young teenagers on this platform to learn bad things by reading the comments confirming that revenge is good… thanks for your perspective!
