He indeed turn back in time. He saves a child and drowned in his hometown after the college period. He's permitted by God (maybe their local water god) to come back to life at the time when he moved to city to study (at the same college with Pado), so that he can amend things with Pado. I think thing with Pado is what bugs him so much that his soul can't rest.
