Hello :D
So with a few months to go, I like to come up with these now and again to pass the time in Mangaland……..
I was just thinking on Fanfic and the weird and wonderful (and sometimes plain cruel) themes we all come up with for the boys and it got me thinking - which of your guilty pleasure plot lines would you like to see in canon?
For example, there are a few excellent fics that I would love to see actually drawn out, but in terms of realistic themes;
I would love to see Asami and Akihito experience a break up, messy and bitter and they try to move on but they keep bumping into each other, talking awkwardly, maybe Akihito's stories keep involving Asami and his men catch him etc. But they get back together after some crazy action type shenanigans and we have a HUGE amazing sex scene (think back to post Hong Kong and the Island) - so much love! This whole thing would just add some more emotional layers to the piece, I have always wanted them to interact more on slightly different levels, that actually don't just revolve around sex. I mean, we've barely seen them have a conversation!
So. Do YOU have a guilty little plot line you's love sensei to put into Viewfinder???? Let's hear 'em!!!!!!!
I have wanted Asami to be put in danger! ex. He is taken hostage. It is Takaba and His men(Kirsihima, Suoh ect) with assit. of Fei who must rescue him.But that would change the dynamics of the Asami as great to much. Or a gang war arc that involves Asami acting as broker showing what he does as the fixer with help from Takaba(finally being able to prove his true worth to himself with his MIND and body). We see how Asami uses power in the back rooms and how he got it and finally some of his true background. so does TaKaba.
Scenarios to draw him into conflict? 1 Big trouble in Little China town( there is a part of Tokyo). Two gangs lower level types start to go after each other. hitting each others bus. clubs. ect. he gets a message from the gov. of Tokyo to meet and disc. the situation. He asks Asami to intervene. He does not want this to spill out onto the city and affect it. Loving the challenge., Asami takes it on" I don't work for free, My price will be steep. you will owe me. I will work with my man only and I want a free hand'. The Gov. agrees. Sitting in a corner sipping a cke is one Takaba A quietly filming and recording every word. Asami winks and they leave through seperate doors. the start of big trouble in little china.
Asami as The Dark knignt. and why he has no known past. He was raised in secret in the mountains by his family until the age of 9 and sent to study a sect monks when it came to their attention he could read the dragon veins power lines of Jpn. there he met Kirishima and Kuroda and Souh . After leaving he climbed the rungs of power to be closer to his real enemy, the demons of the underbelly. Asami becomes the Dark Knight /If the prayers don't work, the bullets put them to rest. Demons beware. One night, Takaba A happens on Asami in full battle gear praying over some spent demons (he had been tracking him for a story hoping for a big score). He was caught. "Ill take that film". He should not have been able to see me and the film caught every thing?. Get that kid. Start of Knight Finder, hahahahahah. sorry for my spamming.

Cute
I liked so much Gary Oldman's Dracula, for me he was sexy as hell! (I know that I have weird tastes) (≧∀≦)

Asami as a vamp. yum He would rock that cape. He is immortal . He could have worn both styles in between his deep sleep periods. In the 1880's he's alive looking that garb. Sleeps when Takaba "dies" present time, awakens when Takaba reaches maturity. He can only Feed on him. bonded pair for life.
You mean this? https://www.google.ca/search?q=original+dracula+image&tbm=isch&imgil=3RnWY5HGpNc_aM%253A%253BKco5QTBgVRx09M%253B https%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.pinterest.com%25252Fpin%25252F242279654925093121%25252F&source=iu&pf=m&fir=3RnWY5HGpNc_aM%253A%252CKco5QTBgVRx09M%252C_&usg=__vD9axVTDC04TOk6DyxyQNPEZreg%3D&biw=1040&bih=716&dpr=0.9&ved=0ahUKEwiBkYmXu8bOAhVH-GMKHWl7D18QyjcINg&ei=mk2zV4HcHMfwjwPp9r34BQ#imgrc=3RnWY5HGpNc_aM%3A
Who is the one in the bowler hat? those lips! those eyes Nosferat.(LOL) I would not want to wake up to that one . I like the cape, but the is modern one nicer.
okay, Bela was a master...but back in the day, vampires were monsters, not sexy, like most (not all) are now. I sued to say zombies are the new vampire, but there are zombie romance novels out there too. I guess everything can be sexy now.
It's cute. Even perky. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Na1A6lSHns
I can see it. If Asami were a vampire, he'd be a bad-ass menacing one--but also hot. The best of both.
I have to admit the first vampire I loved was Lestat, and now I don't think I can re-read Ann Rice. I don't know. I hated Edward (Thank you Tokidoki--the sparkles are in the same category as chipper and perky vampires). I still love Spike, John Mitchel on Being Human UK, Damon on Vampire Diaries, Klause on the spin-off, Julien on Kindred the Embraced, Eric on True Blood, Henry on Blood Ties, and too many bad-boy vampires in novels to list.
Did I mention I love kiss-ass vampires?
The True Blood vamps (in the books at least) are yummy, tried to watch the show and just could not ... and the Anita Blake Vamps - one of which could almost be Asami - if he had long curly hair (see these gorgeous pics - they illustrated the series too ...) https://www.google.ca/search?q=vampire+jean-claude+illustrations&biw=1040&bih=716&tbm=isch&imgil=3Byx6rXinwdGEM%253A%253Ba6Z3xpU2vd81iM%253B http%25253A%25252F%25252Fcomicvine.gamespot.com%25252Fjean-claude%25252F4005-41646%25252F&source=iu&pf=m&fir=3Byx6rXinwdGEM%253A%252Ca6Z3xpU2vd81iM%252C_&usg=__Fn-fTNgPVyrTZuOIyLNeuwGX-Wc%3D&dpr=0.9&ved=0ahUKEwjzq7u1scfOAhVP-mMKHSrJBDwQyjcIKg&ei=lcmzV7ONJM_0jwOqkpPgAw#imgrc=3Byx6rXinwdGEM%3A
I loved Interview with a Vamp. Antioino Bandarise had a small part in the movie. Asami should be him. I thought he stole those scenes he was in.
I love Lestat. i can kind of put up with whiny Louis. am sorry I never got to see Lestat the Musical--but I've seen clips. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQOsZsCTmxs
I could see some of those Anita Blake Vamps fitting Asaim quite well.
I liked Anita Blake till about book 9. now I still skim the newer books at the store to see what happened, but I liked it better before. Jean Claude was very yummy when he was the main vampire. I like Asher too. Damien was about when I started to think there were too many for me to keep track of and care about.
I like the stories, but not really Anita herself - she is kind of rude, selfish, jealous, and has a few too many boyfriends - what was the last total? 25 or 26? I have read all the books, but only for the other characters (though they are kind of pussy whipped now) Jean Claude, Asher, Micah and Nathaniel are the ones I liked best. The author can never decide on her main characters love interests (happens in her Merry Gentry books too) so every guy the character shows a little interest in becomes a boyfriend. Polyamory is well and good, but these books are extreme. The BDSM gets real extreme too ...
I have never read the book(s). I like some of the looks. It is a good thing Asami is not real. he would leave holes in the ground from his hotness LOL.
I understand. I felt like the earlier books were more true Urban Fantasy, and then LKH switched to erotica mid-series. I don't hate erotica, but I liked the stories better when the focus was on the plot and the erotica was second. Jean-Claude was my favorite too. I think LKH wants to tell stories that show polyamorous relationships can work and it's possible to love many people at once, but to me, it just proves the point that if you spread it out too far, it gets too thin. Lovers take time and attention--and you can't put everybody first at the same time--some have to be back- burner and that sucks.
LKH also seems to want to push the BDSM to new limits to the point where it is unrealistic (yes, i know it's fantasy, but.... it gets silly and takes me out of the story when I roll my eyes and start thinking about how stupid that would be).
I also understand not liking a main character (or not liking her anymore). I used to like Anita, but not what she's become. Have you read Faith Hunter's Jane Yellowrock series? In a weird way, it's similar for me (though with less eroticism). I liked Jane in the first few books, but as time passes, instead of showing character growth, to me she seems more unreliable and kind of bigoted if you take vampires as a metaphor. Jane can accept weres, witches, herself (a skinwalker), and vampire servants with supernatural side effects--but she still sees vampires as evil "suckheads" even though she's been working with them for at least 9 books now. Okay, maybe I'm butt-hurt because I love the bad MOC vampire and both Jane and the author refuse to see his potential. But Jane often frustrates me with her attitude--it's not just that the men she chooses seem to be weak and boring in comparison to other characters. But I like the stories, so FH is still a win for me.
Yes, I like the Urban Fantasy part of the story but the erotica gets in the way a bit as the books have become more focused on that part of her stories. And, after 25 books, Anita should have matured as a character and gotten over her issues, that and the fact that while she has all these men, she gets mad when they express interest in other females ... I mean, really? Such double standards. That is not polyamory, it is a jealously guarded harem (hisem??)
I have not read the Yellowrock series, but thanks for the suggestion!
As usual I'm blown (heh) away, I love that even amongst all the Yakuza craziness Sensei brings it back to Yashiro and Doumeki! I just hope Yashiro suggesting sex so bluntly isn't some convoluted idea to push Doumeki away.
Yashiro is already in love with Doumeki, I think the reason why he kept sleeping with others was because Doumeki previously didn't show any interest plus he was impotent so Yashiro thought he didn't have a chance with him. Since Doumeki sucking him off was an order at first, hence again Yashiro thought Doumeki was simply following the orders of his boss.
But yeah, him wanting to sleep with Doumeki now is because he's planning to push him away. But I think it has more to do with him trying to protect Doumeki from what's to come next. The phone call from before proves it.

Read at your own peril, seriously. Major changes to Akihito/Sudoh scene below….I am sharing these because it raises huge points about the psychology of the characters at the time and future chapters. I'm kind of in shock -

I pointed this out on Tumblr too but please note that there is NO penetration. No rape, and I think personally it just shows how 'desperate and deranged' Sudoh had become…..
Thank you Romy. That shows rape for what it really is an act of pure hate violence. That was powerful. Nothing sexy abt. it. That is not S&M, not role play. She made it look real diff. from with Asami or even Feilong. Makes me want to hurt Sudoh.
Sudou did what is referred to as "hotdogging" (sliding his penis between Akihito's butt cheeks) and then he ejaculated onto his back. There was no penetration. This is verified by Asami who later had Akihito present his ass to him so he could check for himself.
It could be that he wants to "soil" Akihito, but I think the motive may be even more pathetic. In his delusional mind, it could be his way of being closer to Asami by using Akihito.
Sorry I forgot to write SPOILER ALERT in my reply just now
Yep I am 80% sure he's using his ass cheeks. Um kind of like a "tit wank" but with his bottom….
- you can zoom in and have a look but I'm sure thats the case, he comes on Akihito's back also. To me it's a little more disturbing somehow too. And I'm a lady ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
Definitely! You are so right!! I don't want to fic drop but I explored a similar theme myself between Yuri and Akihito before - it's like a violation of a whole other kind. It's like there's a real disturbing hatred and crazed anger and Sudoh is showing how fast he's unravelling.
Very interesting but considering the future chapters how we know them at the moment, Akihito isn't acting like a person who has just been through thus horrible attack. I'm looking forward to reading the whole volume cover to cover to get the clear picture.
It's sexual assault. If you have a narrow definition of rape that involves only penetration, you loose sight of the fact that rape is about power and taking someone else's choice away. This is definitely sex as a weapon whether or not sex involves penetration. It's also a bit sensationalistic. But it is fiction. It's okay to have it in the story though we should realize it's a bad thing.
I always got the feeling that we were supposed to at least sympathize with Sudou, maybe even root for him a little bit. As you say, this has new implications about his character. Maybe there wasn't penetration, but this is still a very ugly sexual assault. I know we're going to get called on double standards, but Sudou was already beyond the pale for me because he was in the act of slitting Akihito's throat. I fully believe he intended to kill Akihito. So this isn't just a sexual assault, it's a sexual assault during a murder in progress.
I guess I need to wait and see where sensei is going with Sudou. After all, she managed to bring Fei back from that brutal rape (and intent to kill) in volume three and now everyone loves Fei. But I kind of wish Sudou had just died in the hospital. I've never been a big fan. I've always thought he was pathetic. Maybe that's what makes him unrootable for me and why this assault on Aki feels different.
This crap just rolls off Akihito, though, doesn't it? In this case, literally. (Sorry.)
Thanks for sharing. I noticed that sensei's ukes tend to be touched by other men often (like CS and ikoku irokoi). I'm not a fan of that style tbh.. I pity Akihito for first that incident with sakazaki and then now with sudou. could be she wanted to show just how crazy and deranged sudou is, cos he looks even more psychotic after seeing these panels.
Spoiler, spoiler, etc.
I think the point of the scene is even though Sudou had Akihito tied up and was about to kill him, he still failed at taking any power away from Akihito. Akihito managed to fight back. When Sudou has his penis up against Akihito's butt, the next panel has Akihito smirking as he says something. Sudou is angered by whatever that was.
It kind of makes me think that Sudou did try to rape Akihito but was unable to penetrate him, so Akihito took the opportunity to mock him for it.
Anyway, that's how I'll read it until someone tells me otherwise :P
Honestly, it's been there since forever: Fei Long, then Mikhail, then Yuri, then the maniac, then Sakazaki, now Sudou. Sensei has that kind of writing style, like Anonymous just said. Honestly I'm now expecting the new antagonist to attempt it too at some point in the next volume, like every antagonist gets to touch him :L
Yes, I said earlier in this thread that I need to see where she's going with Sudou because I do get the feeling that we're supposed to sympathize with him, even if just a little. But after seeing these pages, which are ugly and pathetic and just creepy, I have no sympathy for him. So if that's what she wants for the character, I think she's set herself an uphill climb.
It is sexual assault but Sudou is doing this to hurt Asami. Doing this and then killing the person who is special to Asami is his way of torturing Asami.
Honestly, he tried to kill Akihito to hurt Asami, but sexually assaulted him because Akihito was provoking him (can't tell with what words exactly, I have no time to translate this for the next couple of hours). At first he only punched him in the stomach, but Akihito kept at it until Sudou had enough.
I'm not saying it's an excuse, it's just that Akihito is the one that pushed his buttons for that one.
Thank you for that spoiler info J. The fact that Takaba was able to save himself does add a plot dynamics to this. He not Asami stopped this attack on his person, he;s his own hero for a change. He stopped this demon on his own,no gun on sword. just his mind and body and maybe that was the purpose of it. Sudoh failed. He could not hurt Asami becase he could not hurt(rape) Takaba. Takaba Akihito saved both himself and Asami that day. that is what i'm going to see whem I see those pages. Go Takaba.
It does come off as a cheap (and less engaging) Feilong knockoff. That's why I don't like this new arc very much for the most part - the antagonists are so weak. I actually don't even really have much of a problem with whininess, and I do like psychotic villains, but Sudou is just kinda boring, and even if you don't like Feilong, he was at least a much stronger and more complex character. I actually think it was a pretty smart move to bring Mikhail back, because he is much more interesting and has a lot more potential than Sudou - and he was only the side villain of the Hong Kong arc. To me, that kinda shows that the characters from the current arc are just not on par with the older ones.
I am curious to see what was said when it is translated. Sudou is smart enough to know that Asami really loves Akihito and it would hurt Asami more to assault Akihito. That is why Asami wants Akihito to show him his rear to make sure he wasn't raped.
I don't think he saw anything. From the little translation I got, Asami asks Akihito if Sudou did anything to him. Akihito tells him he didn't, but the expression on Akihito's face clearly says "HE DID SOMETHING!!" which is why Asami has a pissed off look as he demands Akihito present himself for examination.
I was hoping Sakazaki would actually be a bigger antagonist in this arc. I don't know why but I like him (⊙…⊙ ) Sudo's psychology just baffles me though.
However, I am actually really looking forward to seeing just where the heck this is all going. I mean is Fei Long coming back to help in the fight? Is Kuroda going to make another appearance? Is Suoh waiting patiently in the pilot's seat of the Helicopter? It's all too much!
Sudou isn't smart. He's an idiot. Dumb enough to think he can rip off Asami and then cry the next minute because Asami doesn't love him. And it's not like Asami was going to do anything anyway. He's all talk when it comes to people "touching" Akihito.
hahahahah poor Sudou !!! he's gonna get killed if Asami catches him !!!
Thank God no penetration! I skipped that part and never had a courage to see it. Hahaha.
It seems because of amazing plot, fans are forget that this is actually ERO manga, started with rape, and Akihito also touched by other man since beginning. Haha
@lightasus, can you translate some of those extended scenes into english? At least a summary. I wanna know what sudou said to Aki and what Asami said to Aki
Nobody's forgetting anything. If fans are shocked, it's not because of the act itself but because it changes the character of Sudou and/or because this now looks a little too much like a rinse and repeat of the Feilong story.
Right now Asami bores me to some extent. I want to see some other sides of him. And there are many yakuza seme just like him. I hope there's more to Asami than it's at the moment.
Feilong's story is a bit mafia family cliché. I liked that light novel, but I first thought there is much more things about Fei. There hasn't been a spin-off either. Everything is hanging in the air.

Who ever promised you there'd be a spinoff? He already had a whole volume all to himself and a separate novel. What more do you expect considering the fact that, I'm not sure you're aware of this or not, but newsflash: Fei isn't the main character. Give it up.
I swear, sometimes I wish sensei would cut Fei's hair off. His fandom would drop by 3/4 and we wouldn't have to listen to them whining about why a minor character isn't getting star treatment.
PS: Asami isn't yakuza.
I think there are some differences. Asami actually led Fei on (so there was a reason Fei had a thing for him) and Fei thought Asami killed his dad. That's much more reason than Sudouh ever had. Also, Fei always seemed more seductive with Aki. He made threats and did terrible things, but it was as if his bark was worse than his bite and he actually treated Aki much better than you would expect a crime boss to do.
Fei is an important side character, and probably knowing more about him, we would know something more about Asami's past too. What did really happen at Hong Kong (in the past)? Can it be possible that Asami knows Kuroda from that point of the story? I had the impression that Asami knew Kuroda at that time, that could be the reason he asked him to clear the mess of the kidnapping of Akihito. These are only hypotheses, but knowing something more about Feilong, we can get a better idea of who Asami is, and Asami is a main character.
Ps: I like Feilong's body more than his hair.
Fei's hair is gorgeous, but I'd love him even if it was short or he were ugly. And vice versa, I wouldn't like Sudou any more if he looked like Fei. Also, just saying - that argument works for Asami too. Would he still be as popular if he weren't so hot? I don't know. In the end, it's all about taste and opinion, and there's no need to try to make other people feel bad for having opinions different from your own.
Asami didn't try to take over Baishe. He tried to secure the trade route from the continent to Japan via Hong Kong.
Yes, it was so much better when Fei kidnapped Aki and held him captive and threatened to hook him on drugs and sell him off as a prostitute unless he blew him and then repeatedly raped him until he could barely walk. It was also sweetly seductive when he raped Aki until he bled, while threatening to crush his balls. You're right. That was much better. But Fei has reasons. That excuses everything.
Besides, are people forgetting that Fei Long intended to kill Akihito just after he raped him? It's just he's been interrupted by Asami.
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v03/c013/21/
Of course in the end, Akihito is the protagonist aha.
No, it doesn't excuse anything. But it explains. It doesn't make it okay, but it gives an interesting glimpse of a character's psyche. Who ever said it was sweet or nice? It was never supposed to be. And Asami also raped/druggeed/kidnapped Akihito repeatedly and he gets away with it. Sometimes it's about what's interesting rather than morally correct. (Also, Fei learned a lesson, which it doesn't look like Sudou will...and you could argue Asami doesn't either, as he never regretted what he did in the beginning)
Fei admitted at the end that it was never about Asami killing his father. "Yes, the past doesn't matter. I just wanted to make you mine". That, just after he proceeded to kiss him.
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v05/c025/22/
It's the same reason as Sudou.
The Anon I was replying to (if that was you) made comparisons suggesting that the differences between Sudou and Fei was that Fei had better reasons, treated Aki better, was seductive rather than criminal, none of which is true. And if that WAS you, you are still trying to make it out like Fei is better than Sudou because he "learned a lesson." But since we haven't seen the end of this arc, you cannot use the argument that Sudou hasn't.
We were discussing how this revamped scene now makes the Sudou arc too similar to the Fei arc, so Asami is not relevant to this argument. It's a limp argument anyway when you have to point to another character and go "Well, look what he did!" Frankly, all three suck when you get right down to it. Some just suck better than others.
Sorry, I'm not the same person - I should have made that clear. :)
I just said it doesn't seem like Sudou is going to be given the redemption treatment, and I based my argument on that assumption and the things we know about him so far. Of course that is just speculation on my part, and if Sensei actually tries to redeem him, I will reevaluate and see if my opinion of him changes. But I can safely say that Feilong's reasons and motivation (and character) were established a lot better than Sudou's.
Also, considering it's Feilong and Sudou we're talking about, I do believe that yes, Asami is a relevant factor. But just to be clear, my point wasn't that Asami sucks; I was stating that Asami is very popular despite his flaws, and that goes to show that a character doesn't have to be "good" to be an interesting or engaging character. And that this is applicable to both Asami and Feilong, but not to Sudou (as of yet).
I'm not sure why you're arguing this point with me. You stepped into the middle of a discussion on an entirely different point and are started arguing something that part of the original question. I'm sorry, but this is kind of weird. I was responding to the other anonymous poster's argument that Sudou's revamped arc is not similar to Fei's arc. We are comparing two specific story arcs that have marked similarities. Asami is not a relevant factor in this discussion because the fact that he is the target of those arcs places him outside comparison, as he could not be his own target. If you wish to discuss the relative merits of Fei, Sudou and Asami as Akihito's rapists, that is a different matter altogether and probably deserves its own thread.
After seeing the fricken' AMAZING new covers for the next volumes, I gots'ta thinkin' about my other beautiful, beautiful books and (as much as I love having paper copies where the art is second to NONE) The text sometimes leaves a bit to be desired. For me for example in the English copies I dislike that they have chosen to switch the names around (just my personal thing as to me it's always Takaba Akihito and not Akihito Takaba! - It's weird the western way round!!!) And one of my favourite lines from the scanlations "you don't have that KIND OF value" (that I wilfully interpreted to mean that Asami was hinting that Takaba meant something more to him) turned into "that's right, you have NO such value." Which totally changed the way I perceived the scene and also Asami's actions at that time.
My point being - in your reading of the scanlations Vs the paper copies you have brought, how has your perceptions changed of key moments/characters etc? If at all?? Are there any moments you wish had been phrased differently in the official translations you have to keep with your idea of how a scene plays out???
And yey to an update! ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶ Thanks for keeping us sane and tiding us over! X
My NUMBER ONE pet peeve is the moment on board the casino ship, after Asami feared Akihito might have been killed by Yuri, Asami and Akihito are clutching onto each other and Asami says--
"Don't... toss my heart around any more than this."
That was sooo satisfying.
Reading the same scene in the English publication... picture it. The same BIG dramatic moment. Asami and Akihito are clutching onto each other and Asami says--
"Takaba... don't distress me like that again."
WTF?!!
But I agree, the fantastic artwork, and Yamane-sensei's Afterword makes it worth it. I'm also annoyed by the westernization of the order of their names. I think readers are perfectly capable of handling it the Japanese way.
This is such an interesting topic. I have thought about it a lot. For me, there are pluses and minuses in both translations. With a few exceptions, I prefer the official translation mainly because it's more coherent, and I think I remember reading somewhere that sensei was involved in the translation, so what you get there is her intent. But I think you get a fuller sense of the story by reading both.
There are a couple of things in the official version that really bug me, though. For one thing, they have bowdlerized the language in weird ways. Like profanity. It's been toned way down. No f-bombs. Example: the bottom frame on this page:
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v02/c005/4/
This is perfect. You can hear the sharp intake of breath between "Don't you dare..." and "say another fucking word!" And it's Fei being pushed to his limit. But in the print translation, it is ludicrously changed to "Enough...say no more." Could it be any lamer?
Or at the end of the previous chapter where Yan Tsui grabs Fei's dick and says “With that fuckin’ girly face of yours, it’s hard to believe you really have a dick at all.” The official version has “Your face is like a woman’s. Are you sure you bear the sign of a male?”
It's kind of ridiculous to try to soften the language when you have explicit sex scenes and people getting their brains blown out and stuff. God forbid anyone should actually say "fuck."
But then there are scenes like the end of chapter ten when Asami has drugged Aki and is waiting for the drug to take effect. That whole conversation is gobbledygook here. In the print version, it's clear that Aki is taking one more shot at talking Asami around to helping his friends. And once he passes out, it's equally clear that Asami really doesn't give a rat's ass about Aki's friends (though the print version would never use so crass a phrase.)
There are also little tidbits that are missing here, like at the end of Body Chase, Akihito has a moment where he wonders if it was Asami and not the cop who put the bug on him and that Asami did it to trick him. He doesn't think anything like that here. Because of moments like this--in the early chapters anyway, Asami comes across a little harder and colder in the print version.
Oh! There's another moment that is better in the print version. Here:
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v06/c032/19/
In the scanlation, that reads like it is Asami who will become addicted to Akihito if Akihito moves in with him. But in the print version, Asami says "There will be sweeter nectar for you if you stay close to me." Akihito says "But that nectar is poisoned, right?" And Asami replies "Even that will become habit forming in time." So that gives the scene and entirely different spin. Now it's about Akihito becoming addicted to Asami and Akihito's awareness of the risk and the darkness.
There are a lot more examples but I've rambled on too much already. And yeah, the reversed name thing bugs me, too. I wish they would have given the readers a little credit on that one. Odds are if you are reading manga at all, you get it.
All of those are very good points!!!! That is so true that otherwise key moments where we think in the scans the we're getting somewhere with Asami, that in the books we feel like it takes us right back to square one where his feelings are concerned.
I always thought whether the translators should pass it on to yet another Beta or something to naturalise the language a bit more after the first initial translations, as there are some weird choices; like Fei Long using the word 'Cad' in the books which hasn't really been in circulation since the 20's - why that word? Of all the insults that's a pretty wet fish.
It's certainly a shame to think about the meaning suffering a little because of Japanese being a language all about context, but the translators are probably not fans of Yaoi or know the story well so they may not be working within that context or with a good understanding of the characters, which is why it is coming across very cutting and sometimes unnatural. Hmmmm oh but! We've got our Olive Oil, our beautifully shaded love scene in escape and love amongst others! ; )
I wonder how many people in here are able to join this topic. It seems most of them are only complaining about lack of updates and demanding mores for free like cadges, I doubt they have their own copies. It sucks.
Oh, yes! Another excruciatingly cringe-worthy moment in the print version is when Akihito calls Fei "you girly Nancy boy!" Ha ha ha! Really? That's all you got, Aki? Again, it's a phrase not used since the twenties. I'm picturing some 90-year-old dear translating this because I really can't imagine anyone younger having that phrase at hand or even considering using it.
When June started working on a reprint of the first volume of Saezuru last year, they actually put out a call to fans to address complaints about the original translation. I wish they would have done this for the reprint of Finder but with so many volumes, that would have been a bigger undertaking.
Oh well. You have to take the bad with the good with the print version. I fell in love with Finder when the first five volumes were no longer available and some volumes were selling for over $1,000 on Amazon, so I'm thrilled that they were reprinted and thrilled to own copies, with all their flaws.
Heh, girly, nancy boy…Akihito you loser.
And yes I was one of *those* people…I brought a stupidly expensive copy of volume 4 on Amazon two years ago….I WAS DESPERATE OKAY?! (Not $1000 by any means but $60 seems a lot right?!!!)
One day, when I'm bored - I reckon I'll cut out speech bubbles to write Viewfinder my own way anyway (⌒▽⌒) we can make them say ANYTHING!!!!! Mwahahaha!! Asami will tell Akihito he loves him everyday :P
Ha ha! This opens up a whole realm of possibilities: Viewfinder Redubs.
And you give me courage to admit that I temporarily lost my mind last week and ordered the BeBoy Gold with the anniversary booklet. (I am a sucker for paper dolls.) What wasn't included in the scan here (I don't think) is that there's a page with a picture of Asami and a selection of blank speech bubbles so you can play along at home.
My goodness imagine the possibilities with the dress up dolls! I just got a horrible vision of Asami in some cutsie lolli costume with some sort of "Nya!" Speech bubble! Argh! Σ(っ°Д °;)っ The horror!

They're doing a reprint of Saezuru Vol. 1? FOR REALS?! You have NO idea how happy you just made me! If you can verify this, then I'll go ahead and get Vol. 2 while they're in stock. This is my next favorite series after Finder.
I got lucky and bought the first 5 VF books just before they disappeared. I think Vol. 3 was the one that was going for $1000... so for a while I was insufferably smug, digging on the thought that I owned a "rare" volume, lol. One time I misplaced it and panicked, thinking someone found it and threw it out (I had been using it to look up a question on here and forgot I had hidden it under some folders in the desk drawer).
But Karma's truly a cruel bitch-- I pre-ordered the 8th and final book of Ai no Kusabi. Waited... waited... and then found out only one online seller had gotten them (I think it was Akadot). It was a limited run of 800 and they quickly sold out. The LAST book of that series! UGH. I heard later the translation was ridiculously horrible, but still... :(
Initially, the Saezuru reprint was sold as an add-on of a Kickstarter project but it closed a couple of weeks ago. Anything left over from that will go to akadot.com. It's probably too late to order through the Kickstarter thing. They did the Finder reprint via Kickstarter. I missed the deadline and they just told me to wait and keep watch at the akadot website. Estimated publish date for the Saezuru reprint is sometime in May.
Saezuru is my second favorite, too. I bought the ebook version of Volume 1 and that translation is even worse in parts than some of the Finder clinkers.
Thanks for the info! May? I'll keep an eye out. I haven't see anything yet. I don't mind regular books on Kindle, but I'd much rather have manga as a physical book.
Yeah, I watched the Kickstarter for Finder, but I already had all the volumes so it didn't make sense to put in for identical copies. At one point, I checked back and they had come across a few extra copies of Ai no Kusabi Vol. 8 which they made as a Finder add-on (ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!)... but of course by the time I saw it, they were already gone.
The yaoi gods continue to mock me.
Is anyone else at all bothered with how small Shinotani-san's junk is?
( ̄∇ ̄")
I don't think so. Junk comes in many different sizes. I was touched, though, when Shirotani himself mentioned it.
I dunno man, I just think 'hey it's Yaoi, lets get some artistic licence here!' - in so many yaoi's they are if anything, comically big! Magnum size as it were, so I'm always like 'huh, so yet another Uke has a small penis', like Seme's and Uke's role's are defined by their junk.
(plus it was a joke post to all you prissies getting offended, get a sense of humour eh?) (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
Shinotani:hey guy,you make me sad....why you say out ( ̄へ ̄)
I'm not sure how you guys will take this - it's not an insult to Sensei or anything, just meant as a bit of fun!!!!!!! - But does anyone have their LEAST favourite Viewfinder frame or moment? Like something that just made you go 'wha-?' 'HUH?!'
I know this manga is great for it's lack of 'Yaoi hands' etc unlike some others but it's true there must be at least one weird thing for everyone, right?
I'll start off with mine: http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v01/c001/35/ - Just how long is Asami's face on the bottom of this page! (Like so…)
Again, is only meant as a bit of a joke - we all know we love this manga x
THIS ONE THIS ONE:
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v03/c014/14/
A witchdoctor shrank poor Asami's head :(
The ones with Akihito giving Sakazaki a blowjob :( why Aki :( my poor baby Aki have to suffer that.
I need two links to show mine. First, Aki is just about spilling coffee on Asami's lap:
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v08/c050/6/
And then, Asami pulls Aki into his lap:
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v08/c050/7/
What did Asami do? Grab the coffee and then pull Aki? Spill the coffee and ignore it? Sue Aki for burning his lap with coffee?
The bottom scene looks really weird to me, the proportions seem off:
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v05/c030.1/8/
Akihito's first sighting of Asami:
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v01/c001/4/
Those are some shoulder pads you've got there Asami
Umm...
I'd rather discuss Asami's Yaoi penis. Which offends me not in the least.
(First frame, obviously):
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v07/c043.1/17/
Ooh!!! You could fit a small family on those shoulders. I raise you Akihito's freakishly huge shoulder in the first frame:
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v02/c008/14/
Haha - I can sorrrt of justify that to myself as Akihito wearing a cheap, poorly fitting suit, perhaps borrowed, but Asami has his clothes tailored to fit. By comparison, this is a reference shot of Daniel Craig in his dinner jacket in Casino Royale, the Bond film where he famously wondered out of the sea in a pair of little blue trunks and was very well built.
Well built, real man in suit: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v409/xshellofamanx/AffordableBond/CR_0742-1.jpg
Asami in suit: http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v01/c001/4/
I know manga doesn't aim to be hyper-realistic, but I can't get over the angle of Asami's shoulder seams!
I handwave Asami's, ahem, proportions in that special to myself as:
1) The harness restricts blood flow and makes him larger than normal and
2) he really does find being tied up by Akihito very exciting.
Otherwise they just make me boggle.
I'm here because of the penis reference.i am not disappointed.
Thank you.
Quite a few times the noses of the characters disappear - which is quite funny (I am aware that it is an illustrators shortcut but it amuses me)
I was thinking about the same thing, because in those frames Sakazaki didn't restrain himself in any way and clearly (in my opinion) tried to humiliate Takaba.
They look cute without noses... except when they accidentally morph into a wacky alien right after:
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v07/c045/10/
I love any character in Chibi form, though Asami in Chibi form just seems wrong!
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v06/c035.3/14/
That it kind of reminds me of the way they sometimes erase penises or make those glowy lightsaber replacement phalluses*. So an anus may be drawn with all the detail of a blooming chrysanthemum, but noses and penises are too much for our gentle sensibilities.
Latin scholars, is the plural of phallus phalluses or phalla?
I'm not much of a Latin scholar, but I think it would have to be phalli. Although phalluses might work as well as a lower register variant.
Gotta love this kind of discussion. ^^
Was just going to ay the same thing - it is late latin so either works as grammatical rules started to erode in the 5-6th century. Interestingly - they used to call it lignum - which translates as wood/wand/tree.
True, the alien look is pretty funny. There are also images where things like eyes disappear 'cast in shadow' but the shadow is never dark enough for that loss of detail. (reminds me of Kisuke in Bleach - how often did his eyes show when he wore that hat ...)
Yes, Asami's missing penis is... disturbing.
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v07/c039/18/
In this case, the plural form would be "fallacies".
My impression of Latin scholars is that they go around making dirty jokes no one else can understand. Some may be reading Summa Theologica, but the rest are looking for ancient Roman porn. I would not be at all surprised to see them here snickering. When you see a Latin translation of 10 Count hit the Net, you'll know I am right (and that some scantaltor found a sort of loophole).
I love making dirt jokes in Latin, and I had a lovely teacher who taught us how to order fries and a burger, to say "beam me up Scotty" and brought in Asterix and Obelix (in Latin) for us to watch and assigned Winnie the Pooh (Winnie ille Pooh) for homework translations!
Nope - have not seen Pooh dj and hope I never do! Eeek! And for you to ship Tigger and Rabbit shows that you have a sick, sick mind too flooded with yaoi ... erm, actually, I think I could almost see ... nope! Wreck my childlike innocence - I now need bleach for my eyes and something fluffy, like Attack on Titan.
1. You need Jesus
but also:
2. Lmfao
and have you considered:
3. Tigger and Piglet
I know I'm late but...look at their arms in the first panel. *shudders*
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v02/c007/10/
Oh, that's not right...
My least favorite moment is when Asami leavs Akihito at the hotel to meet that guy who was fleeing fei
http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v03/c010/19/
Oh haha I always thought 'awww isn't he so cute for tucking Akihito in' - but then I'm like 'um Asami, if he sleeps in that wet towel he's going to catch a cold!' - http://www.mangago.zone/read-manga/you_re_my_loveprize_in_viewfinder/mh/v03/c010/20/
yes my interpretation of that scene is a little different ^^'
Nice to see you've come around on this. You argued against the idea a few months ago.
It's not often I read something and dismiss it as pure bollocks...But that was utter wank. And plot, what plot?!
The most disturbing thing about it is that the Uke was willingly with that guy, he was not under duress. He had the power to say no, but he liked fantasising about his colleague too much so went along with it and willingly took those drugs and went with that guy willingly to his room again and a-bloody-gain.
Then ah, yeah OK - the 'hero' seme wanted to have sloppy seconds sex with him right after he had 'been raped' by the fat old dude and still had his come in his ass? Where is even the attempt at portraying realistic human psychology here?!?!?!?!?! This is one of the worst Yaoi I've ever read, and I've read some utter shite in my time!
Nah son, rubbish.
he could escape, but he felt he had nowhere to go and he wish to stand by and repay the seme, his savior. Then, he was protecting kyouta and the seme. He was pressured
That's right, the fat guy rapist threatened him with going after the seme, so uke submitted in order to protect the seme from the fat guy. And fat guy was probably from the yakuza or someone very powerful, even if any of the bodyguards would've been able to overcome him physically, evidently he had some other type of hold over them.
I get all that - I read it. But I think the whole think was very cheap and flimsy that's all. Cheap thrills at it were...
Thing* - silly typo!
PROTRECTING??? MY ASS THE UKE WANTED TO GET RAPE TOO.
