Shota doesn’t rhyme with pedophilia. Shota is just a term to define a trop of character. There are some yaoi stories where the two characters are children too, it doesn’t need to include any adult. I see your point tho, shota is usually mostly associated with onee-sans after all.

Yeah pretty much hahaha it’s just to describe a character (like « onee-san » type) it doesn’t need to have any romance or anything to it. Like how sometimes there are lolis in adventure shounen but they don’t necessarily have any romance to it. Japan likes it’s character tropes hahaha
