I think grandpa was surprised that someone else brought up Tia as a potential head of house candidate. Like he knows she’s interested and he’s willing to train her but he also doesn’t think she’s ready due to her age. He’s not thinking that in a mean way, simply that she doesn’t have enough experience yet and he’s willing to nurture her skills and experience himself until she’s ready to take over. Like if Tia was Shanat’s age with years of experience, he would be all for it. The person he mentioned (Romansie) is probably a close friend that seems to be able to predict his decisions due to their friendship. he was wondering if Romansie said Tia’s name because he knew of grandpa tutoring Tia or if he truly saw the potential in Tia himself.
